Heidi Reeves is the founder of Mousewood Forest and Nature Early Learning and Family Centre—Prince George’s first licensed forest and nature school.

Born and raised in Vancouver, she discovered her passion for caring for young children early on, completing her Early Childhood Education training and opening her first daycare, Kindercastle, in the 1990s. After relocating to Prince George in 2005, Heidi continued to innovate in early learning, introducing practices such as the Reggio Emilia philosophy, Forest and Nature School principles, and Shanker Self-Reg—approaches that were new to the region at the time.

In 2018, Heidi was formally diagnosed as autistic, a discovery that brought clarity to her lifelong dedication to early childhood education. Embracing her neurodivergence as a strength, she channels her focus, empathy, and creativity into supporting children and families—particularly those navigating neurodiversity. Her work has included roles as a preschool director, postpartum doula, foster parent, and parent coach, always centered on helping families build understanding, resilience, and connection.

What began as a class project soon evolved into her life’s mission: creating Mousewood, a nonprofit nature-based learning centre rooted in curiosity, inclusion, and belonging. Situated on five acres of meadows and forests, Mousewood blends outdoor exploration with research-based early education, offering children—especially those with autism, ADHD, and sensory sensitivities—a safe, nurturing space to grow. Today, Heidi’s vision continues to inspire families, educators, and the broader community to reimagine what early childhood education can be when guided by heart, nature, and innovation.
