Cgeck out the new evidence that proves what we already knew đź’ś

A 2025 study published in AJOG adds powerful, up-to-date data showing associations between doula care and improved maternal and newborn outcomes.

Key Maternal Outcomes:

More vaginal births after cesarean (VBAC): For every 100 patients who received doula care, there were 15 to 34 additional VBACs compared with those without doula care.

Higher postpartum follow-up attendance: 5 to 6 more per 100 received postpartum office visits.

Key Neonatal / Infant Outcomes

Increased exclusive breastfeeding rates: Babies whose families had doula support were more likely to breastfeed exclusively.

Fewer preterm births (and early preterm births): Doula-supported births showed a reduction in preterm birth rates.

In short, the study links doula care with improvements in birth outcomes — across birth mode (more VBACs), infant health (less prematurity), and early infant care (breastfeeding, postpartum follow-up).

Welcome to the PG Doula Group!

The purpose of this group is to connect every family searching for extra support with independent doulas available for their estimated due dates.

As a disclaimer this page does not employ doulas, we only provide names. When you are provided with doulas to contact, we highly recommend asking for references and doing a thorough interview before selecting the best fit.

Because there are only a handful of active doulas serving in Prince George, there may be times when we cannot find a doula for your dates. We would rather provide you with excellent, dependable doula support than mediocre, unreliable service.

We wish you all the best in your pregnancy, birth & postpartum journey!

A doula is not someone you call when labor starts and hope for the best.

We are not a last-minute rescue.
We are not a savior rushing in to “fix” birth.

A doula is someone you build a relationship with months before you ever feel a contraction.

When you hire a doula early, the real work begins long before labor. We walk beside you as you learn, question, process, and prepare. We help you understand your body, your options, and your voice, so by the time birth arrives, you’re not looking to someone else to save you. You already know you can do this.

We don’t just attend a birth.
We help shape the experience you walk into it with.

We:
~Educate you on the physiology of labor so fear doesn’t run the show
~Help you understand common interventions, your choices, and your rights
~Talk through what-ifs so nothing feels shocking or overwhelming
~Help you build a birth plan that’s flexible, realistic, and truly yours
~Teach your partner how to support you with confidence — not panic
~Normalize what labor looks and feels like so you don’t doubt yourself
~Help you practice positions, comfort measures, breathing, and coping tools
~Prepare you mentally and emotionally, not just physically
~Hold space for your fears, questions, and past experiences
~Remind you again and again that your body is not broken

By the time labor begins, we aren’t strangers walking into your birth.

We are a familiar, grounding presence.
We already know your preferences, your triggers, your goals, your strength.

And during labor?
We remind you:
~You are informed
~You are capable
~You are allowed to ask questions
~You are allowed to pause
~You are allowed to change your mind
~You are in control of your birth choices

Hiring a doula early isn’t about having backup.
It’s about walking into birth confident instead of afraid.
Prepared instead of unsure.
Supported instead of alone.

If you want to feel calm, grounded, educated, and powerful when labor begins, don’t wait until the last minute.

This work starts long before labor does.
And it changes everything.

Today’s topic centers around a book written by my guest, Dr. Margo Lowy. She has researched and written about maternal ambivalence, including how to understand it and why it remains a taboo subject. We will discuss destigmatizing uncomfortable feelings and normalize the understanding that motherhood is not “all or nothing.” We’ll cover the darker emotions of anger, guilt, and resentment, and we'll refute the myth of “the perfect mother” and recognize that motherhood can be viewed in different ways. Join us to learn more!

You need both. Not one or the other. AND they are not the same. They have specifically different jobs. Both a midwife AND a doula are very valuable to have on your support team not to mention that it has been SCIENTIFICALLY PROVEN that both have a positive impact on your birth experience.
