Michelle was a dedicated and hardworking woman with many talents, truly a jack of all trades. She found joy in staying busy and took pride in cooking, cleaning, babysitting, and even working on cars. Nothing brought her greater happiness than her grandchildren, who meant everything to her and remained at the center of her world.

Michelle’s laughter and warm smile had a way of lighting up any room. She had a deep love for music, especially the songs of Bob Seger, with “Fire Lake” and “Real Love” among her favorites. She loved fiercely and wholeheartedly, and that love was returned by all who were fortunate enough to know her. Michelle will be deeply missed, and her memory will live on in the hearts of those she touched.

The family of Michelle extends their heartfelt gratitude to the MSU team at Pasqua Hospital for the compassionate care, dedication, and continued support provided to Michelle during her time there.

Alfred Menno Vogt
March 31, 1944 - January 17, 2026

Alfred Menno Vogt, aged 81, passed away peacefully on January 17, 2026 at the Last Mountain Pioneer Home in Strasbourg, Saskatchewan.

Born on March 31, 1944 in Lockwood, Saskatchewan, Alfred was predeceased by his parents, Paul and Suzie Vogt, his brother, Garry, twin brothers who died at birth and his first wife Kathy.

Alfred left his family farm at the age of 17 and moved to Regina, where he began working at a gas station for a short period. He later joined Sears, where he was employed for a few years before continuing his career at the John Deere Warehouse. Alfred took great pride in his more than 30-year tenure with John Deere, where he worked until his retirement.

Alfred married Kathy Gray on August 13, 1966. They shared 30 years of marriage until Kathy’s passing in 1997. Together, they raised two children, Karen (Kerry) and Brian, and were blessed with four grandchildren: Tanner (Emily), Brandon, Maddy, and Aubrey.

He married Muriel Bernaski on April 3, 1999, at which time his family grew to include her children: Jacquie (Gordon), Kim (Randy), and Kenneth (Roxanne). He was also blessed with additional grandchildren—Forbes, Logan, and Tyler.

Alfred always enjoyed sports. When he was younger, he played softball, and later on he loved watching Karen and Brian play basketball. He eventually took up curling and golf and became quite good at both. He also liked playing cards and having people over. Time at the cottage in Kannata Valley was always full of fun and interesting moments.

After retiring, Alfred and Muriel settled in Strasbourg. In the years that followed, Alfred was diagnosed with Parkinson’s, which gradually slowed him down. He lived in Ivy’s Care Home in Earl Grey for a short period during the COVID pandemic in 2020 before being transferred to the Last Mountain Pioneer Home in Strasbourg, Saskatchewan, where he remained until his passing.

We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to all the staff at the home for their kindness and compassion. Their care meant a great deal to Alfred, and he truly felt at home there. We also wish to express our sincere appreciation to Dr. Nicole Heintz and NP Janelle Hubick for the dedicated care they provided to Alfred.

A private family service will be held at a future date. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Last Mountain Pioneer Home in Strasbourg, Saskatchewan or a charity, cause or an organization of their choice.

Gordon Gerald Gwillim
April 1941 – January 6, 2026

It is with great sadness that we have said our final goodbye to Gordon. He was born on the family farm to Ethel and Gerry Gwillim. He grew up there with his siblings – Barrie, Penny and Glenda, developing a love of the land, family, community and amateur radio.
After completing Grade 12 in Strasbourg, he attended Peacock Tech in Moose Jaw and Department of Transport Meteorology training in Ottawa, where he also received his private pilot license. Following his time in Ottawa, he worked in remote sites in the Northwest and Yukon Territories in the early 1960’s. In 1964 he purchased his farm outside Duval. He then completed his Diploma of Agriculture in 1965 and farmed the land for over 60 years.
He was an avid HAM (Amateur Radio Operator), passing his first exam at 16 years old. He was active for the next 70 years communicating with other amateurs all over the world. He loved electronics, and repaired all types of radios, TVs, and machinery over the years.
Gordon married Peggy McGillivray in 1974. They shared their love of farm living for 50+ years on the family farm, where they raised their family and an assortment of animals. Children Karen (Tony), Heather, and Rob (Lana) were a treasured addition to the family. Grandchildren Reese, Isaac, Lukas, Nik, Liam, and Amelia have created the next generation to carry on the many Gwillim family traditions. They too share love of family, creating adventures with the next generation of Gwillims.
Thank you to friends and family who have supported us during our loss. Special thanks to Strasbourg EMS; Dr M Alibahi; Dr Bauman, Dr Moolla, and the kind caring staff in the Pasqua Palliative Care ward for the special care provided to Gordon and family during his final days.
In lieu of flowers, the family wish donations in Gordon’s memory be made to Pasqua Palliative Care Unit.
A celebration of Gordon’s life will be announced at a later date.
There’s a silence where there was none
Rest easy now your work is done
The ones that will follow, they bring you with them
We can hear your voice if we just listen

When the sun goes down there’s still the light of the moon
We will remember you
If you live a thousand years you’d still be gone too soon
We will remember you
The Light of the Moon

(Rainbow Cloud Woman)

July 16, 1965 – January 9, 2026

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Rhonda Marie Akan (Hottie), also known as “Hotdog” (her street name), who passed away on January 9, 2026, at the General Hospital, at the age of 60.

Rhonda was a deeply loved daughter, sister, auntie, grandma, cousin, and friend to many, known for her gentle spirit, warmth, and unconditional love for children.

She is lovingly survived by her mother, Hazel Bitternose, with whom she shared a deeply special bond. They were not only mother and daughter, but also partners and roommates, walking through daily life side by side with love, loyalty, and mutual care.

She is also survived by her siblings Louis (Donna), Sheryll (Karl), Ken, Joanne, Margaret, Wanda (Lorne), and David, who loved her dearly.

Rhonda is also survived by her cherished companion, Bella, her beloved mini Yorkshire Terrier who was always close by and brought her comfort and companionship.

Rhonda was predeceased by her father, Orvin Bitternose; her brother, Harvey Akan; her niece Liz; her maternal grandparents, Margaret Pinacie (nee Desnomie) and Gilbert McLeod; and her paternal grandparents, Harvey Bitternose and Ada Bitternose (nee Itittakoose).

Although Rhonda never physically had children of her own, her nieces and nephews were her children, and she loved and cared for them as such. She was a proud and loving auntie to her many nieces and nephews: Roger, Keri, Bonnie, Trenton, Koda, Austin, Russell, Emmylou, Sonya, John, Derek, Ben, Jasmine, Garret, Chris, Jenny, Nikki, Jeremy, Leonda, Jace-lynn, Caston, Dana, Lyndon, Lacey, Trevor, and Manda (who gave her the nickname “Hotdog” as a child when she couldn’t say “Rhonda,” and because Rhonda was always eating hotdogs — a name that stuck and was later shortened to “Hottie”).

She also had many grandchildren, including her special grandsons Malachi, Aiden, Toby, Bronson, Ezra, Blu, Tripp, Elias, AJ and Troy, and her special granddaughters Anaya, Kaylee, Lily, Ellie, Emma, Big Ellie, Big Emma, and Bailey, who brought her immense pride and joy.

Rhonda grew up in Quincy, Washington until her early teen years, where she formed cherished friendships and deep family connections that stayed with her throughout her life. She later moved back to Saskatchewan, where she established her life, built her home, and formed the relationships and community that shaped her adulthood. The connections she made in both places remained close to her heart.

Rhonda spent 30 years as a teacher’s assistant with Regina Public Schools, working at Judge Bryant, Connaught, Wascana, Imperial, and Ferguson. She was deeply respected by students, staff, and families for her patience, kindness, and steady presence. Through her years with Regina Public Schools, she built lasting friendships with colleagues who became like family and remained close to her heart.

Rhonda was also a beloved CUPE Local 3766 warrior, sharing her strength, kindness, and courage with all who crossed her path. She played an integral role within her union, serving on the Executive and many committees over the past 10 years. Her commitment to advocacy, fairness, and care for others was evident in all that she did, both in her workplace and in her community.

Rhonda loved celebrating all holidays—especially Christmas—and found great joy in dressing up, embracing fun, and sharing laughter. She loved movies and going to the theatre, and Star Wars was one of her favourites, bringing her great happiness and reflecting her playful spirit. Rhonda remained a kid at heart, carrying a beautiful childlike innocence that brought light and joy to those around her.

Pallbearers will be Jeremy Akan, Trevor Rockthunder, Dylan Worm, Koda Wolfe, AJ Ryles, and Aaron Crowe.

Honorary Pallbearers will be her mother’s siblings: Albert, Darlene, and Willie, and Bernice, Alfred, Terry, Joe, Donald, and Noreen, who all held a special place in her heart.

Rhonda’s legacy lives on through the children she raised in love, the family she held close, the workers she stood beside, and the laughter and joy she shared so freely. She also helped reunite our family, reminding us that life is short and teaching us the importance of forgiveness, compassion, and holding one another close.

We thank everyone for their prayers, love, and support during this difficult time.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made directly to Judge Bryant School or by eTransfer to
judgebryantscc@gmail.com.

Wake will be held Tuesday, January 13, 2026 at 4 pm in the Old Gym, George Gordon First Nation. A Celebration of Life including a community meal will be held in the same location the following morning, Wednesday, January 14, at 11:00 am. All are welcome.

Following cremation, there will be an invitation at a later date to join Rhonda's family for a ceremonial scattering of ashes.

He will forever be remembered by his loving wife of 64 years, Joan Karasin, daughter Tracey Karasin-Bellisle (Greg Bellisle), grandsons Levi Bellisle and Tanner Bellisle. He will be sadly missed by all of his loving nieces, nephews and numerous family members and friends. Martin is now reunited with his eldest daughter Michelle in heaven. Marty was born in Limerick, SK in 1936 on the family farm. Marty’s career started in Regina by joining his brothers at Karasin Bros. Ltd. Later on Marty ventured off on his own with Joan where they started up Marty’s Plumbing & Heating. They owned and operated the business until their retirement. It was well known that Marty could and would tackle any challenge that was presented to him. He loved working with his hands building projects, making sausage, smoking meats, gardening, loved his pets, reading, nature, wildlife, all types of fishing and hunting. Marty could tell you anything you asked about his favorite sports. He was an absolute die hard fan of the Roughriders, when curling season hit he was glued to the tv and don’t get him started on his Blue Jays.

Marty enjoyed many years camping at his seasonal campsite at Nipawin Regional Park with his wife Joan and family. One of his most cherished trips with Joan was to Alaska to celebrate their 50th Anniversary. Marty’s greatest highlight in life was spending time with his two grandsons.

Marty’s passing will be a huge loss to his family. The teaching and knowledge he provided was priceless and will be deeply missed. The family would like to thank Last Mountain Pioneer Home, Strasbourg, SK for all the care and compassion that they provided to him for the last 9 months.
