"Monthly day of prayer for Mental Health – November 2025

This month the Pope’s prayer is for the prevention of su***de.

May we be able to give those among us who struggle with suicidal thoughts the necessary psychological and spiritual support to heal their emotional and spiritual wounds.

May they find our parishes places of welcome, listening, and understanding. May we know how to be close to them so that we can accompany them without fear and judgement but with compassion and wisdom.

Let us pray that those who are struggling with suicidal thoughts might find the support, care and love they need in their community, and be open to the beauty of life.

Step by step, healing begins far beyond just medication

New research has revealed a powerful truth — walking just 30 to 45 minutes a day, five days a week, can reduce symptoms of depression as effectively as antidepressants. The study reported a 60.4% remission rate in just four months, showing that movement alone can offer deep emotional relief.
This isn't about running marathons or intense workouts. It's about putting one foot in front of the other, consistently. Walking boosts endorphins, reduces inflammation, and increases brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF), a compound that supports mood regulation and brain function.
Participants in the study experienced fewer negative thoughts, better sleep, and improved motivation — all without side effects. The act of walking outdoors also added exposure to sunlight and fresh air, both known to enhance mental clarity.
Doctors are now encouraging walking as a front-line support for those struggling with low mood, anxiety, or stress. Combined with social interaction, music, or simply mindfulness, it becomes more than exercise — it becomes therapy.
This discovery is a reminder that healing doesn’t always begin in a bottle. It can start with a pair of shoes, a quiet path, and a little time each day.
Your body already holds the medicine. Let it move.

Sometimes, the mind seeks relief in quiet, repetitive actions — even those that cause harm. Trichotillomania, or Hair-Pulling Disorder, is a mental health condition where a person feels an irresistible urge to pull out their own hair, often from the scalp, eyebrows, or eyelashes.
This condition affects around 1–2% of the population, commonly beginning during adolescence, and is often linked to stress, anxiety, or emotional distress. For many, the act provides a brief sense of calm or control — followed by guilt or shame.
Recognizing it as a psychological disorder, not a habit, is key. With the right therapy and understanding, healing is possible.

Mental health is real. Let’s talk about it, understand it, and stand with those who are struggling.

BEING vs. DOING. Our dignity as human beings is inherent to us not dependent on what we can do or we have accomplished. Allowing ourselves to rest and setting our boundaries are ways that we are taking good care of ourselves.

Very wise quote. When we heal, we heal with the others around us and even the ones who will be coming after us. This is the power of healing.

The moment you choose to face what’s been avoided — to feel what generations before you couldn’t — everything begins to change.

Because pain doesn’t vanish on its own.

It waits. It lingers in silence, in tension, in the way we love and protect…

Until someone — you — decides the pattern stops here.

Healing isn’t loud or dramatic.
It’s the pause before you repeat what once hurt you.
It’s the breath you take before you respond differently this time.
It’s the moment you offer your child the gentleness you never received.

That’s how the cycle breaks — quietly, courageously, and one choice at a time.

Your children may never know the weight you’ve lifted, but they’ll feel it —
in the peace of your presence,
in the calm of your voice,
in the love that no longer carries pain.

And one day, when they move through life with a little more ease, they’ll be living proof that the healing was never just for you. ❤️
