“Alright, let’s go around the circle and everyone share something that you are thankful for!”

As we count our blessings this Thanksgiving, we may be thinking it is something we celebrate once a year. Psychology experts at Florida International University say gratitude isn’t about one holiday but a lifelong mindset that can lead to overwhelming positive effects. From helping to reduce anxiety and increasing our sense of connection to loved ones, having a grateful attitude even in the smallest of situations can make a big difference.

Here are 4 things to know about tapping into the power of gratitude:

🦃Gratitude literally changes your biochemistry and makes you healthier.
🦃Gratitude can elevate our mindset and perspective. Little by little, it can change your life.
🦃Gratitude is intertwined with a higher purpose, acts of kindness and connection with others.
🦃 Gratitude is like a muscle. The more we practice being grateful the more we become connected to gratitude’s transformative benefits.

Here are some tips to help you foster a mindset of gratitude for more than one day:

👉Identify 3 small things before you go to bed.
👉Keep a gratitude journal
👉Find a way to connect with your family and friends
👉Don’t forget to be thankful for yourself.
👉Make sure to tell your loved ones those two big words THANK YOU 🫶

Greenberg Psychological Services wishes you a beautiful Thanksgiving
❤️

Are you unsure how to better connect with your child who has ADHD?

It all depends on their age as well as their individual personality and symptoms. Throughout every stage, focus on clear, calm and positive communication that builds their self-esteem.

Early childhood Ages 2-7 —> Communication in early childhood should focus on simple, concrete directions and consistent routines.
🔆get their attention first
🔆use simple and brief directions
🔆use visuals
🔆make it a game :)
🔆practice listening

Elementary school Ages 8-12 —> As children grow, communication can become more collaborative. Help them understand their ADHD and build self-esteem
🔆break down complex tasks
🔆explain how their brain works
🔆provide specific feedback
🔆practice social situations and skills like waiting their turn and how to handle conflict.

Adolescence Ages 13-18 —> With teenagers, shift from managing behaviour to guiding their independence. Maintain a supportive relationship to navigate common challenges.
🔆ask for permission to give advice
🔆be a guide not a director
🔆prioritize the relationship over conflict

Here are some behavioural strategies to help support your child at every age
🔆give prize and rewards when rules are followed
🔆give practical directions or commands
🔆establish healthy habits
🔆develop routines around homework and chores

ALWAYS remember to empower your kids and encourage them to navigate their journey to adulthood successfully.
