Calling all Mental Health practitioners in need of some connection!

We’re hosting a social gathering for therapist, counsellors, Social Workers, and other mental health practitioners to meet, get to know each other, and socialize - no consultation, professional development or lunch and learns. Just a fun evening of connection.

This event is designed for:
- Therapists (psychologists, counsellors, social workers - registering body isn’t important)
- For those who are employed by an organization or have their own independent practice, or those between work
- Students in or near their masters-level practicum portion of their schooling.

We’re excited to highlight Nichole Fegan (she/her) at the Social Shift Collective!

Nichole is a Registered Provisional Psychologist (supervised by Brittany Davies) and is currently accepting new clients. She believes you are the expert in your own life and works collaboratively through a holistic, client-centered approach to support your mental well-being.

Nichole works with children and adolescents (10+) and adults, primarily through an attachment-based lens, exploring how relationships and past experiences shape current patterns. She has a special interest in ADHD, particularly in women and its connection to sleep, self-worth, and relationships, along with women’s health and child development.

Outside of sessions, Nichole lives east of Red Deer with her husband, a third-generation farmer, and their animals including a curious Coonhound mix, Cash. She loves iced coffee, buying books, and is involved with Animal Assisted Therapy Alberta, with hopes of bringing a therapy dog into sessions one day.

Nichole offers Friday appointments, with virtual sessions available after an initial in-person assessment.

Therapy isn’t always about giant leaps; it’s about the small victories, the moments of insight, and the courage it takes to show up for yourself day after day. At Social Shift, we see and celebrate every step of your mental health journey.

Remember: progress isn’t always linear. Some days feel like two steps forward, one step back and that’s okay. Every step counts. Every effort matters. Every breakthrough, no matter how small, is worth acknowledging.

Tip for today: Take a moment to reflect on your own growth. Celebrate even the tiny wins, like reaching out for support, expressing your feelings, or simply making it through a challenging day.

We’re excited to introduce Leigh Apperley (she/her) at the Social Shift Collective!

Leigh is a Canadian Certified Counsellor who has been practicing in the Red Deer area since 2019. She enjoys meeting new clients and believes that therapy can be beneficial at any stage of life. Leigh works collaboratively to understand your concerns and support your goals for the future.

Leigh works with teens (13+) and adults, supporting individuals navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, ADHD, grief, and interpersonal challenges. Her approach is trauma-informed, drawing from narrative, emotion-focused, and DBT-based therapies. She is also trained in EMDR.

Leigh offers Friday in-person appointments and welcomes the opportunity to connect and explore how she can best support you.

Raise your hand if you are slightly overwhelmed with getting ready for the week ahead after the holiday break 🙈 We know we aren’t the only ones feeling this today!!

‘Self-care Sunday’ doesn’t have to be a full reset or a perfect plan.

Sometimes it’s a menu. And just like a menu, you don’t have to order everything.

Here are some small, meaningful options to help ease the 👻Sunday scaries👻, lower the mental load, and make the week ahead feel a little more manageable.

Use this menu as a starting point to just get a little momentum on tasks that help you function in your life.
👉Pick one 10-minute option.
👉Or a 20-minute one.
👉Or a dessert, if you have the capacity.

None of this is about productivity or doing more.
The goal with this is about supporting yourself gently as you transition back into routine.

If all you do today is rest, that still counts.
And if you do one small thing for Future You, that counts too.

Save this for the Sundays that feel heavy or overwhelming.
And come back to it whenever you need a soft reset or a gentle nudge to get some things done.

Happy New Year!

2025 was another year of growth at Social Shift as we welcomed new practitioners to our team, celebrated a number of personal and professional successes on our team, and worked with our community to reduce barriers to accessing mental health care by providing hundreds of low-cost and no-cost therapy sessions.

As we look ahead to another year of doing what’s meaningful to us, we’re carrying these values into 2026:
