This is an extremely important topic and one that impacts so many people, often unknowingly because of the student’s compensatory skills or inaccurate messaging on the topic. It’s so important that we get it right. Cognitive/academic assessments are very important as they provide useful information when interpreted correctly. BUT, we NEED to make sure we’re getting it right, there’s way too much at stake. When it’s ignored or misunderstood, students don’t have the opportunity to realize their potential and this is not ok.

CALGARY:
Starting this October, Sounds Apart will be offering small-group structured literacy intervention at Mount Royal University! Together with Year-4 MRU Teacher Candidates (TCs), will offer twice-weekly structured literacy intervention for struggling readers and writers (Gr 1-6 students diagnosed with dyslexia, language learning challenges, or those who are struggling to reach grade level expectations). If you know of a child who might benefit from this service, please pass this information along to parents, guardians, teachers, principals - anyone who might help spread the word that we are trying to make literacy intervention accessible to ALL families. For more information, please contact Eryn: literacy@soundsapart.ca or find more information at www.soundsapart.ca
