Headaches. Computer work. Stress. Too much phone time. Travel and driving a lot. Fatigue. Turning your head too much or not enough. Dog pulling on their leash. Sleeping funny. Kids. Heavy purses/backpacks. Workouts. Not stretching enough. Stretching too much. Shivering. Shovelling. Winter. đŸ˜©

And oh.. there’s so much more! But you KNOW that’s the spot. So what are you waiting for? Book yourself in and get that worked out. It’ll hurt so good.

Where it hurts isn’t always where the problem is - that’s why I will always work on more areas than you think you need worked on and I’ll often recommend a longer session for your next appointment. Our bodies are complex and everything is connected, so treating one area and just poking at your sore spots often won’t resolve what you came in for.

Our bodies are also really efficient, but that also makes them lazy, in a way.. ‘if you don’t use it, you lose it’ isn’t just specific to strength or flexibility in the big mobility ways we think of. Your body starts to take away what you’re not using pretty quickly - when you sit in one position too long and you’re stiff when you get up? That’s your body’s adaptation to that position - it starts to shorten muscles by removing sarcomeres (muscle fibre cells) because they’re not being used and they don’t need the fuel/energy/oxygen/etc. More frequent breaks for even 30-60 seconds a few times an hour, just to wiggle around or stretch and contract muscles in different ways than you typically use them (or don’t use them if you have a sedentary job) throughout the day can make a big difference in how you feel by the end of it.

Booking in for monthly massage therapy appointments helps to maintain your mind and body, keeping you feeling like yourself and helping to prevent pain from taking you out of living your best life. Plan your appointments ahead of time and schedule around them so that you make taking care of yourself a priority. Future you will thank today’s you. đŸ«¶đŸ»

Last year?! You haven’t had a massage since LAST YEAR?!! 😅

Chances are, your benefit plan reset on January 1st, so what are you waiting for? đŸ€·â€â™€ïž

I hear that a lot of people save their massage therapy benefits in case they get hurt
but did you know, that you’re less likely to ‘get hurt’ in a lot of ways if you’re already regularly going for massage therapy? Taking care of your body helps to keep it in good health.

And, as some of you just discovered in December, it can be very difficult to use up all of your benefits at the end of the year because so many other people do the same thing and your fav RMTs are VERY BUSY. đŸ«

So this year, do yourself a favour and book regular massages throughout the year. Your body will thank you (and so will your RMT!) đŸ«¶đŸ»

Interesting study on pain:

The International Association of Pain Society (IASP) have introduced the term “nociplastic pain” in 2017 to describe chronic pain that does not fit into the other two existing pain descriptors: Neuropathic and nociceptive. Recently researchers wrote that meaningful distinctions among all three descriptors “remain unclear,” and their impact on treatment decisions is uncertain.

The International Association of Pain Society (IASP) have introduced the term “nociplastic pain” in 2017 to describe chronic pain that does not fit into the other two existing pain descriptors: Neuropathic and nociceptive. However, putting the new term into practice can be challenging since noci...
