Burnout is one of the most common things I see in practice—and it’s rarely as simple as “just rest more.”

When I’m working with someone who’s feeling completely depleted, I always come back to two key questions:
✨ What fills your cup?
✨ What drains it?

Because burnout isn’t just about doing too much—it’s about an ongoing imbalance between the two.

The hard truth? The changes that truly shift burnout are often big ones. Boundaries. Lifestyle shifts. Re-evaluating how your time and energy are being spent. And those things take time.

While we work on rebuilding that foundation, there are supportive tools we can use to help restore energy, resilience, and vitality along the way.

Many people ask if supplements are necessary—and the truth is, it depends. In Naturopathic Medicine, we always start with the foundations: nutrition, digestion, stress, and lifestyle. Because if those pieces aren’t in place, supplements won’t give you the results you’re looking for.

That said, supplements can be incredibly helpful when they’re used intentionally and tailored to your body’s specific needs. They’re not meant to replace a healthy foundation—but to support it.

There’s no one-size-fits-all approach here. What works for one person may not be right for another, which is why individualized care matters so much. And the goal is never just to “get through the day”—it’s to actually feel like yourself again.

Big feelings are normal — and there’s rarely just one single cause. The good news? Small, consistent shifts can make a big difference in regulation and mood and today Dr. Michelle Sthamann ND is sharing some of her most recommended suggestions.

With sensitive or easily-irritated kids, I always start with the foundations:

• Blood sugar balance: High-protein breakfasts (eggs, nut/seed butter, even leftovers) + protein or fat with every snack.
• Sleep routines: Consistent bed/wake times, calm wind-down, and limiting screens before bed.
• Dopamine hygiene: Shorter, intentional screen use + more outdoor play, crafts, and reading.
• Ingredients: Simple labels. Fewer artificial dyes and preservatives.
• Gut check (if needed): If you notice patterns after meals (bloating, stool changes, eczema, mood shifts), consider a gentle trial without common triggers like dairy or gluten and observe.

Once the foundations are in place, gentle supports can help:
• Magnesium (kid-friendly forms)
• Personalized homeopathics
• Cool Kids Chamomile & Catnip Combo (Perfect Herbs) — available in clinic.

Every child is unique. If you’d like a tailored plan — including nutrition, supplements, and dosing — we can personalize this at your next visit.

Heart health is more than a muscle — it’s a whole-person experience. ❤️

February is Heart Health Month, and at Prairie Sky Health we support your cardiac wellness through every lens: physical, emotional, and social.

That means individualized naturopathic care, stress reduction, nervous system balancing, acupuncture, massage, Reiki, and integrative support designed to enhance circulation and overall resilience.

But heart health isn’t only physiological. Research shows loneliness and isolation significantly increase the risk of heart disease and stroke. As Brené Brown reminds us, there is a powerful difference between fitting in and belonging. True belonging supports not just emotional well-being — but physical health too.

Your heart health is a symphony of nutrition, physiology, stress levels, and connection. Whether you’re seeking physical support or a community to feel at home in, we are here for you.

Prairie Sky Health will be closed for select days in February while our practitioners and staff take some well-deserved time to rest and enjoy time with their families.

✨ Important to know:
• If you already have an appointment booked with a practitioner during this time, your appointment will still take place as scheduled.
• The reception desk will be closed, so there will be no in-person bookings or product purchases during the closure days.

We appreciate your understanding and support as we honour rest, balance, and family — values we encourage for our patients too. Thank you for being part of our Prairie Sky community.

What are you doing for family day this year?

Castor oil packs are one of the most gentle yet powerful tools in naturopathic medicine — simple, non-invasive, and deeply supportive for the body.

Research shows that castor oil (rich in ricinoleic acid) can:

* Improve circulation and lymphatic flow
* Support liver detoxification and bile movement
* Promote digestion and regular bowel function
* Help regulate the nervous system and improve sleep
* Modulate immune activity and reduce inflammation

Most people apply packs 3–4 times per week over the liver or abdomen with gentle heat for 30–60 minutes, and the key to results is consistency.
It’s one of my favorite at-home therapies for patients dealing with sluggish digestion, hormone imbalance, chronic inflammation, or detox support — and it’s a beautiful example of how small, simple practices can create meaningful change over time.

More and more people are turning to naturopathic medicine — and honestly, it’s not hard to understand why.

As a Naturopathic Doctor, I (Dr. Allison Ziegler ND) look at the whole person — not just a symptom or diagnosis. That means considering physical health, emotional wellbeing, lifestyle, nutrition, and environmental influences. My goal isn’t just to treat illness, but to understand why it’s happening and support the body’s ability to heal.

I’m also seeing a big shift toward preventive care. People don’t want to wait until something feels “wrong” to start taking care of their health. Naturopathic medicine gives patients tools to stay well, build resilience, and feel empowered in their health journey.

This isn’t a trend — it’s a return to something deeply intuitive: the body has an incredible ability to heal when given the right support.

If you’re curious about how naturopathic medicine could support you, we would love to help at Prairie Sky Health.

What is Naturopathic Medicine?

Naturopathic Medicine is the art and science of diagnosing, treating, and preventing disease using natural therapies with a focus on optimizing health and well-being through individualized patient care and public education. Naturopathic Doctors (ND) operate on a wellness rather than an illness model. Our primary goal is to address the cause of an illness rather than simply treating or suppressing symptoms. While naturopathic medical care helps to alleviate specific symptoms, the focus is more on the “why” of a disease than the “what”. We believe in the healing power of the body and the importance of removing the “obstacles to cure” while supporting the bodies own internal healing mechanisms in order to restore health and wellness. Naturopathic medicine offers a customized approach to health care, where treatment plans are tailored to suit individual patients.

Our philosophy is rooted in 5 key principles:

Identify and treat the cause - In addition to alleviating acute and chronic symptoms of disease, NDs seek to identify and remove the underlying cause(s) of illness. This approach moves your body toward an optimal state of health, something that might not be achieved by simply eliminating or suppressing symptoms. Doctor as teacher - NDs work collaboratively with patients, sharing knowledge and information to ensure a successful treatment plan. You will be encouraged to take responsibility for your own health. Treat the whole person - In addition to addressing specific complaints or symptoms, NDs look at the ‘big picture’. Your physical, mental, emotional, genetic, environmental and social factors are thoroughly considered. Prevention is the best medicine - NDs emphasize prevention of disease by assessing your risk factors, heredity and susceptibility to disease. Appropriate interventions can then be made in partnership with patients to prevent illness. Support the healing power of the body - We recognize the ordered and intelligent self-healing process that is inherent to everyone. NDs work to identify and remove obstacles to healing and recovery and facilitate the natural self-healing process.
