🩹 A first aid kit is an essential safety tool designed to help manage emergencies and injuries quickly and effectively.

Although first aid kit supplies vary depending on the type and size of the kit, they all serve the same purpose: to provide immediate care for minor injuries and manage emergencies until professional help arrives. While the specific contents may differ based on use or location, most kits are designed to support basic treatment, safety, and cleanliness in everyday first aid situations.

Familiarizing yourself with the items in your kit and understanding how to use them will enable you to respond with confidence when it matters most.

💚 Heart attack vs. cardiac arrest: What’s the difference?

A heart attack is a circulatory problem caused by blocked blood flow to the heart. The heart is still beating, and the person is usually conscious.

Cardiac arrest is an electrical problem where the heart suddenly stops beating effectively, causing the person to collapse and lose consciousness. It requires immediate CPR and an AED.

Understanding the difference helps you recognize emergencies and respond appropriately.

Last week in Regina, our incredible St. John Ambulance (SJA) Therapy Dogs were proudly spotlighted at the More Joy Conference, which focuses on the importance of mental health. Our SJA Therapy Dogs shared their calm presence, comfort, and unconditional love with conference participants, reminding everyone that it’s okay to not be okay.

Our SJA Therapy Dogs are truly invaluable and priceless. Through gentle companionship and heartfelt connection, they reduce stress, bring comfort during difficult moments, and help people feel seen, supported, and never alone.

They provide solace to those who are injured, isolated, uncertain, or struggling with stress or depression, as well as comfort during emergency situations when people have had to leave everything behind. They also bring warmth to those in care homes who’ve had to leave their own pets behind, offering hope, familiarity, and a sense of connection through a gentle paw or quiet presence.

Every day, our SJA Therapy Dog Teams make a difference across the province, supporting hospitals, schools, care facilities, community events, and businesses. Their impact goes far beyond a single visit, leaving lasting impressions of compassion, healing, and joy!

We are so proud of our dedicated volunteers and their amazing dogs, who bring comfort, connection, and unconditional love wherever it’s needed most.

⛸️❄️Skating season is here! Whether you're on a frozen pond or an outdoor rink, staying safe is key.

Skate on safe ice: Only use areas approved by local authorities and avoid thin or cracked spots.
Protect yourself: Wear helmets, gloves, and warm layers to help prevent injuries.
Warm up first: Stretch your legs, ankles, and core to prevent strains and falls.
Know your limits: Don't push yourself too hard with tricks or extended sessions. Take breaks and stay hydrated.
Be prepared: Keep a small first aid kit and a way to call for help just in case.

Enjoy the crisp air and make the most of your winter!
