We hope you are staying warm in this cold weather! Here is a link to a website from Iowa State University that gives some tips for walking safely on snow and ice. Although their weather isn't as cold as ours they still have some great tips to remember! Here are their main points:
1) Take short steps or shuffle for stability
2) Bend slightly forward and walk flat-footed with your center of gravity directly over your feet as much as possible.
3) Keep your hands out of your pockets.
4) Be prepared to fall. If you fall, fall with sequential contacts at your thigh, hip, and shoulder. Avoid using outstretched arms to brace yourself. Bend your back and head forward to avoid hitting your head against the ground.
Stay warm and safe out there!
Products are available with abrasive soles or cleats that provide special traction for walking on snow and ice, such as Yaktrax. [Remember to remove when entering buildings.]
