Hello, my name is Marney Murchie, and I am the creator behind Twisted Artistic Metals.
This business was born from grief, love, and purpose after the passing of my oldest son, Taylor Austin McAuley. Taylor was diagnosed with autoimmune hepatitis at just 12 years old — a disease where the body attacks itself, in his case, his liver. In June 2023, due to severe liver damage, he was airlifted to Edmonton and received a successful liver transplant in July at age 19. Sadly, in September, a blood clot compromised his new liver. Taylor was then replaced back on the transplant list, but a second liver never became available. He passed away on January 16, 2024, at 1:15 a.m., at just 20 years old.
While the initial loss was devastating, grief hit me hardest in July 2024. I was on holiday with my family, overwhelmed by guilt grief for continuing life without my son. One day, standing in a small gift shop, I kept returning to the same wall without knowing why. When I finally looked, I saw a simple wire tree someone had created. That was the moment that sparked something in me.
I began researching wire art and started creating wire Trees of Life with crystals. At first, I made them as thank-you gifts for the friends and family in Edmonton and Regina who supported us through the hardest time of our lives. Then, unexpectedly, it grew into something more.
I named the business Twisted Artistic Metals (TAM) after Taylor — Taylor Austin McAuley. Each tree carries a small tag reading “Made with Love” and TAM engraved. I create every piece in Taylor’s bedroom, on his bed, making this work deeply personal and done entirely in his honor.
Through Taylor’s passing, we learned to spread love more, and that is what I do now. I pour love, intention, and energy into every tree I create. This journey was a gift from God, pulling me from grief and giving me purpose. Before this, I had no creative background — creativity simply appeared when I needed it most.
My very first tree sold locally to a liver transplant survivor, a moment I believe was a sign from Taylor. Today, my trees live in homes across Canada and the United States, spreading love far beyond me and for that, I am endlessly proud.
