The holiday season is packed with joy, but family gatherings, school events, and playdates can also feel overwhelming and unpredictable for kids. They may struggle with new faces or crowded rooms!
We believe that offering gentle structure and providing the right tools can help your child feel confident and comfortable connecting with everyone on their list!
Here are three simple, effective ways to build essential social skills this holiday:
✔️ The Greeting Game: Before the event, make it fun! Role-play different ways to say hello and goodbye. Practice eye contact, shaking hands, or even a simple wave to make greetings feel natural.
✔️ Conversation Sparkers: Equip them with simple, open-ended questions like, "What is your favourite holiday tradition?" or "Did you see the school play?" This gives them an easy way to join a conversation without feeling stuck.
✔️ Previewing the Party: A little prep goes a long way! Discuss what to expect before a larger gathering: Who will be there? What food will be served? What activities might happen? This reduces anxiety and increases comfort.
Confidence doesn't just happen; it grows through these everyday moments!
