What Is a Core Vaccine? 💉🐾

“Core vaccines” are the essential vaccines every dog and cat should receive, regardless of lifestyle. These protect against the most serious and widespread diseases — ones that are highly contagious, pose significant health risks, or can be transmitted to people.

For dogs, core vaccines include:
• Distemper
• Parvovirus
• Adenovirus
• Leptosporosis
• Rabies

For cats, core vaccines include:
• Panleukopenia
• Calicivirus
• Herpesvirus
• Feline Leukemia
• Rabies

Keeping up with core vaccines helps protect your pet *and* the community. If you’re unsure what your pet is due for, we’re happy to help — just give us a call!

Holiday Hazards for Pets 🎄🐾

The festive season is full of fun — but it also brings a few extra risks for our furry family members. Here are some holiday hazards to watch out for:

1. **Tinsel & Ornaments** – Attractive to cats and dogs but can cause serious GI issues if swallowed.
2. **Toxic Plants** – Poinsettias, lilies, mistletoe, and holly can be harmful if ingested.
3. **Holiday Foods** – Chocolate, raisins, grapes, xylitol, fatty leftovers, and unbaked dough are common culprits.
4. **Electrical Cords & Candles** – Curious chewers can get burns or electrical injuries.

If you’re ever unsure whether something is safe, give us a call — we’re here to help keep your pets happy and healthy all season long! 🎅🐶🐱

⚠️ Why You Shouldn’t Use Hydrogen Peroxide to Make Your Pet Vomit ⚠️

It’s a common internet tip — but using hydrogen peroxide to induce vomiting can do more harm than good.

While it may sometimes cause a pet to vomit, hydrogen peroxide is very irritating to the stomach and esophagus. It can lead to:
🐾 Ulcers or inflammation in the GI tract
🐾 Aspiration pneumonia if vomit enters the lungs
🐾 Bleeding or tissue damage to the throat and stomach

In some cases, it might even make things worse — especially if your pet swallowed something sharp, caustic, or oily.

If your pet eats something they shouldn’t, call your veterinarian or a pet poison control hotline right away. They can advise you on the safest next step based on what was ingested and your pet’s health.
