Last Saturday, our SLP Sandy had the wonderful opportunity to represent the Speech Meta team on Fairchild Radio FM 96.1, joining host Lily for a special interview during Autism Acceptance Month.

The conversation was conducted in Cantonese and focused on sharing what speech-language pathologists do, how we support autistic children and teens, and resources in the community.

We were so encouraged to hear that they received a lot of positive feedback from listeners who tuned in that day!! 🫶

We’re grateful for opportunities like this to continue building awareness and acceptance for autistic children and teens. ❤️

Thank you Sandy and Lily at FM 96.1!

Throwback to last Wednesday, where Jessie and Fiona attended the Complete Neurodivergent Expo wrap dinner at the Hart House in Burnaby.

What a lovely evening connecting with volunteers and other exhibitors from the event. It was so meaningful to share highlights, reflect together, exchange feedback, and have open conversations about the recent changes and challenges we’re all navigating in supporting neurodivergent children and families in our community.

We are so thankful for the organizers’ generosity and for hosting this lovely dinner for all of us. See you all next year at the Expo! 💛

So much fun at our 3-day Spring Together Social Camp over Easter weekend 🌸🐣

Led by Shannon Briggs, SLP, and supported by our incredible team of volunteers, we spent the weekend building friendships, confidence, and skills through play.

Across the three days, we focused on:
✨ Executive functioning
✨ Emotional literacy
✨ Play and social skills

Each session was filled with movement, games, connection, and meaningful learning. We also made sure parents left with practical strategies and ideas to carry over at home after every session.

What a special few days together 💛 We are so grateful for this community!

When we follow a child’s interests, we create meaningful opportunities to build functional language. ❤️

What started as a love for the alphabet turned into an animal train adventure, where our SLP, Ali, used creative play to model functional language and expand it in meaningful ways.

The sweetest part was that these toys were prepared for another client, but this little guy spotted them and connected with them right away through a shared interest. 🥰🥰

Welcome to our new segment: Speech Meow-ta Moments 🐈🐈‍⬛🫶🏻

If you know anything about our team, you know we’re big-time cat lovers (and animal lovers in general 🥹).

Behind the scenes of Speech Meta, there are some very important furry coworkers keeping us company, supervising (virtual) sessions, and reminding us to take time for some cuddles.

We’re so excited for you to meet the cats who are part of our team in their own special way 😻

April is World Autism Awareness Month 💙

Let’s grow in understanding, celebrate differences, and recognize that every life has value.

At a team, we have the privilege of working alongside many autistic children and families. Every child we meet brings their own way of communicating, connecting, and experiencing the world, and that is something we deeply value.

Autism does NOT mean less.

It reflects a different way of thinking, learning, and interacting. As speech language pathologists, we support communication in ways that feel meaningful, respectful, and empowering for each child.

This month reminds us to move beyond awareness into acceptance, and to create spaces where children feel seen, supported, included and understood just as they are. 🥰

Brain Power Run Club Season 2 is officially complete! 🎉 🏃🏻‍♀️💨

We are so proud of all the children and families for showing up each week, learning, growing, and building skills together through movement. It has been incredible to see the progress in social emotional learning, executive functioning, confidence, teamwork, and so much more 🫶🏻

Last night, we celebrated all of their hard work and effort. Such a special way to wrap up the season!

A huge thank you to our amazing volunteers who make this program possible. Your patience, energy, and care do not go unnoticed💙

And we are already looking ahead. Season 3 is coming! 👟

Starting Monday, April 13

We now have TWO time slots available
5:00 to 6:00pm and 6:00 to 7:00pm

We will be back outside at Sir Wilfrid Laurier Elementary and cannot wait to get running again!

There are still a few spots left in both groups.

We recently added this new dollhouse furniture set to our therapy toy collection at Speech Meta!

The pieces are a lot bigger, which makes it easier for little hands to move things around and stay engaged in play. The figures can also change outfits, which creates a lot of opportunities for pretend play and language!

The pieces are sturdy and easy to handle. They’re also harder to lose and feel safer for our little ones ❤️

Happy Monday :)
