✨ Youth Self-Defence Opportunity – CAN‑RYU Jiu-Jitsu in North Augusta with Sensei Chris and Senpai Veida ✨

Thanks to the generous funds raised by Debbie Reid, we’re excited to offer three (3) youth, ages 6–15 (as of January 1, 2026), the opportunity to participate in 25 jiu-jitsu classes at the North Augusta Community Hall (8115 Mill St.) plus receive a gi.

CAN‑RYU is a Canadian‑born martial art that builds self‑confidence, discipline, fitness, and practical skills — and is a fantastic way to make new friends! 🥋💪

The intent of this opportunity is to support Augusta Township youth who have a genuine interest in learning self-defence techniques but have been unable to do so due to financial constraints. We rely on the good faith of community members to honour this intent when submitting draw submissions.

It was an honour to have Kyoshi Norm Beauchamp out to give Chris his Sensei designation. This recognition is not only about skill and discipline, but about the way Chris has lived his journey — with humility, loyalty, and balance.

Chris' path has always been a family endeavor. I remember when our daughter Veida first stepped onto the mats at just five years old with him. Later, our son joined, and together they grew alongside each other. What has always stood out is that his practice was never pursued in isolation — it was shared, nurtured, and woven into our family life.

Even as he dedicated himself to the art, he ensured that training was always in balance with the priorities of life. Family, community, and integrity were never sacrificed for achievement. This balance reflects the yogic principle of Aparigraha — non-possessiveness — leading not by ego or desire for titles, but by service, generosity, and respect for what truly matters.

As a teacher, he embodies Saucha — clarity and purity of intention. His decisions are guided by quality, not convenience. His loyalty to a small circle of students, peers, and family is unwavering. He leads not by ego, but by example, always thinking of others before himself.

So, last Thursday, as he received the designation of Sensei, we celebrate not only his mastery of technique, but his embodiment of timeless values. He reminds us that true leadership is not about possession or recognition, but about service, loyalty, and balance.

Here we come December! Aurora members are shifting from November’s reflections into the spirit of generosity and responsibility. This season often brings gatherings, celebrations, and heightened expectations, making it the perfect time to embody asteya—the yogic principle of non-stealing—and the martial value of responsibility.

Both remind us to honour what is freely given—time, space, energy, tradition—and to approach each moment with gratitude rather than grasping. In yoga and jiu-jitsu alike, true abundance is found not in what we take, but in how we give: through presence, respect, and mindful stewardship of our actions. 🌿🥋

💡 This month we’ll also be exploring how AI is impacting our human-to-human connections.

🌟 What a weekend! 🌟

We took a powerhouse crew of students to Capital Conquest and they absolutely shone. From training with incredible instructors across disciplines, to stepping into competition, celebrating together, and soaking in the unforgettable Kobudomaia show — this was a weekend of growth, grit, and pure joy.

So many doors opened for these students, and we couldn’t be prouder of how they showed up. Big things are ahead, and we can’t wait to see where Sensei Chris leads this amazing crew next!

🌬️✨ As we move into November, we pause to honour the breath and the truth it reveals.

In September, we explored Ahimsa—non-harming—as a living practice. In October we explored Satya—truthfulness—not just in words, but in presence. We practiced listening inward through both Indriya and Prana Pratyahara, and cultivated peace and clarity through 3-part breath, equal breathing, Ujjayi breathing, and alternate nostril breathing.

In November, we turn toward Saucha—purity and clarity. This month, we’ll explore new breathing techniques that support cleansing, focus, and energetic renewal. Breath becomes a tool not just for calming the mind, but for clearing the path—physically, mentally, and spiritually.

Thank you for showing up with heart, and curiosity. Our practice continues—rooted in truth, and held in kindness.

Purity isn’t about perfection—it’s about honoring ourselves and our practice with care and respect. This theme encourages precision, mindfulness, and a deeper connection to our intentions.

This is a huge opportunity for our team to train, connect, and compete alongside martial artists from across the country. We’re so proud of their commitment and grateful to everyone who helped make this possible—your generosity is sending our athletes to an unforgettable experience!
