Sore after a massage?
That doesn’t necessarily mean it “worked.”
This is one of the biggest misconceptions in massage therapy.
A good treatment isn’t about how much pain you can tolerate, it’s about how your body responds after.
Here’s what’s actually happening:
There are 3 types of post-massage responses:
1. Productive soreness (OK)
Feels like a light workout soreness
→ Muscles were challenged, tissue changed
→ Usually fades within 24–48 hours
2. No soreness (Also OK)
You feel looser, lighter, and move better
→ Nervous system relaxed
→ Tension reduced without irritation
3. Excessive soreness (Not ideal)
Sharp, lingering, or limiting movement
→ Too much pressure
→ Body went into protective mode instead of healing
Massage isn’t just about “digging in.”
It’s about getting the right input for your body.
At Eden, we adjust pressure and technique based on:
• Your goals
• Your nervous system tolerance
• How your body responds in real time
Because results > intensity.
If you’ve ever felt worse for days after a treatment, that’s not something you just have to accept, and there are no bonus points for pain tolerance if it isn’t helping your body get better.
There’s a better way to do it and our knowledgeable therapists are experts at getting the best results for you out of your treatment.
Feel better.
