Hey everyone! We want to talk to you about something important: oral cancer. It's a serious disease that can affect anyone, regardless of age or gender. The good news is that oral cancer is highly treatable when detected early. That's why at our family dental practice, we offer comprehensive oral cancer screenings as part of our routine dental exams.

During a screening, we'll examine your mouth, tongue, and throat for any signs of abnormalities. If we do find something concerning, we'll work with you to develop a treatment plan right away. The earlier we catch it, the better chance you have of beating it.

We know that going to the dentist isn't everyone's favourite activity, but oral cancer screenings are quick, painless, and can potentially save your life. Don't put off your dental checkups - they're an essential part of your overall health and well-being.

So if you haven't had an oral cancer screening lately, book an appointment with us today. We're here to help you stay healthy and happy.

Wisdom teeth are molars that begin to appear in your late teens or early 20s. They are found in the back of your mouth.

As many of you might already know, wisdom teeth can become problematic for a number of reasons.

Impacted wisdom teeth, which have failed to appear above the gumline, can lurk below causing issues due to angle of entry or simply too little room.

When impacted wisdom teeth aren’t removed they can lead to gum tenderness, swelling, severe pain, and other more complicated issues.

If it’s time to get your wisdom teeth removed, get in touch!

You may have heard of inlays, onlays and crowns, but might be unsure of what purpose they serve. When standard fillings aren’t enough to restore the form and function of your teeth, these alternative restorative options are available.

Also referred to as caps, dental crowns are placed over the entire tooth and can be made of various materials like gold, porcelain or zirconia.

Dental inlays and onlays are similar types of restorations, produced in a laboratory and permanently bonded to the tooth.

It’s possible that you may have been experiencing some heightened tooth sensitivity when breathing through your mouth in this cold, dry winter weather.

Along with other types of discomfort caused by the cold, dental pain triggered by extreme temperatures is quite natural.

The cause, however, could be indicative of an underlying problem, such as tooth decay.

Luckily, if you’re scheduling regular dental hygiene appointments, these types of underlying issues can be detected early.

What’s so great about composite fillings? 😄

Contrasted with metal fillings, composite fillings are made with a special resin that has the look and feel of real teeth.

This means that they look natural and give you more confidence when you smile. Putting in composite fillings is also a relatively quick procedure and once they’re in, they are tough and last a long time.

Also, they are completely safe and non-toxic. A big bonus is that they’re also resistant to temperature change, so they won’t cause any discomfort when you eat hot or cold foods.

Whether you’re in need of a filling or just a good old-fashioned checkup, get in touch!

Don’t forget your tongue when you’re brushing your teeth! It’s so simple and important, but easy to forget when you’re paying close attention to your teeth and gums. Plaque can actually build up on your tongue, too!

So banish bad breath by brushing your tongue gently as a part of your dental hygiene routine.

02/24/2023

For patients with tooth decay, dental fillings become an essential procedure to safeguard oral hygiene and overall health. When left unfilled cavities can exponentially worsen your oral health.

Fillings restore decayed teeth by literally filling in decayed, cracked, and chipped parts of your enamel with a material that feels just as natural. These materials are used and designed to last for years.

However, as these materials become stressed by the same daily wear-and-tear your teeth do, they can fall out or become damaged themselves. So while fillings replace the lost structure, they do not strengthen the tooth.

So if you have had a filling come out, be sure to get in touch soon to get it replaced! Unfortunately, many people who put off fillings often require a root canal or tooth replacement later on.
