What if our emotions aren’t something to judge… but something to listen to?

In this short clip from our Wellness Matters talk, Beyond Judgment: Discover the Power of Self-Compassion, Kathy Underhill shares a simple but powerful reminder: emotions aren’t “good” or “bad.” They’re signals — offering information about what’s happening inside us and what we may need.

Learning to respond to those signals with compassion can open the door to deeper emotional care, meaningful connection with others, and a renewed sense of purpose and joy in our lives.

In the full talk, Kathy explores:
• Why emotions are important signals rather than problems to fix
• How self-compassion helps us respond to difficult feelings
• The role of relationships and connection in emotional healing
• Ways to reconnect with joy, meaning, and spiritual grounding

You can watch the full talk here:
https://www.riversedgecounselling.com/the-compassionate-road-to-building-selfesteem

If this conversation resonates with you, Sheila’s upcoming program, The Compassionate Road to Building Self-Esteem, offers an opportunity to explore these ideas in a more personal and practical way.

This small-group program focuses on:
• understanding the roots of self-criticism
• developing self-compassion and emotional awareness
• strengthening confidence and self-esteem
• learning practical ways to relate to yourself with greater kindness

It’s designed to be a supportive space for reflection, learning, and connection with others on a similar journey. To learn more and register: https://www.riversedgecounselling.com/the-compassionate-road-to-building-selfesteem

Sometimes the most important shift we can make is learning to meet ourselves with kindness.

The transition into parenthood can be joyful and deeply meaningful, but it can also bring unexpected stress, identity shifts, and emotional difficulties. Many new mothers feel isolated, uncertain, or “not like themselves,” and these experiences are more common than we often talk about.

This group helps mothers understand the “why” behind these feelings and supports them in building emotional resilience, self-compassion, and a sense of connection.

The group offers a supportive space for new mothers to connect, share their experiences, and develop practical strategies for navigating the emotional and mental health challenges of the postpartum period. The group also focuses on normalizing the wide range of feelings that can emerge after birth and provides tools to support adjustment and recovery.

Session topics will include: psychoeducation on postpartum mental health, emotional regulation, self-care, relationship changes, and managing expectations. Group members will share insights, offer support, and build a community of understanding.

Babies are welcome to attend with their mothers, this group recognizes the importance of accessibility and bonding during early parenthood.
You are not alone. Support is available, and healing begins with connection.

Starting April 22, 2026, Wednesdays, 1:00-3:00pm
Facilitated by Erica Burdzy Registered Provisional Psychologist

Spaces still open!
Journey Through Grief: Touchstones of Hope (No Cost)
A 7-Week Adult Grief Group
Grief is not something we “get over.” It is something we move through — often slowly, often tenderly.
If you are carrying the pain of losing someone you love, you are not alone.
Beginning March 5 through April 16, we are offering a 7-week adult grief group on Thursday evenings from 7:00–9:00 pm.
In this caring and respectful space, participants will:
• Reflect on their unique grief journey
• Explore how grief shapes healing
• Learn practical coping strategies
• Give and receive support within a compassionate group setting
This program is offered at no cost as part of River’s Edge Counselling Centre’s ongoing commitment to community care.
Grief can feel isolating. Healing does not have to be.
