The Lymphatic System plays a large role in your body’s health.
It’s major functions include:
🦠trapping and destroying foreign invaders, harmful substances, and damaged or cancerous cells.
♻️collecting waste products from tissues
🩸maintaining proper fluid levels in body tissues.
🍕absorbing fats from the digestive tract

The lymphatic system does it’s job best when the body’s structure works optimally to help pump lymph through the body.

Exercise, deep breathing, and osteopathic treatment are all ways to help your lymphatic system!

Treatment of the OA joint.
💀this is the joint between the atlas and occiput, the first cervical vertebrae and the skull
🩸the main arterial supply to your brain wraps right around this joint to enter your cranium
💙Veins that drain the skull and brain also travel around this joint
🧠the first cervical nerve travels between this joint and the VAGUS nerve travels directly anterior to it (the vagus has a HUGE role in regulating parasympathetic function of the heart, lungs, digestive tract, and other organs).

👉dysfunction in the motion and positioning of the joint, abnormal tension of the muscles and ligaments that cross it, and resultant compression and obstruction of nerves and vessels that cross it can lead to symptoms such as headaches, digestive issues, sinus congestion, anxiety, fatigue, and more.

Osteopathic treatment addresses these patterns of tension and compression and resticted motion to help eliminate symptoms you are experiencing or prevent symptoms before they become expressed!

Do you suffer from regular headaches or migraines?
Osteopathic treatment relaxes areas of tension in the neck and shoulders, base of the skull, jaw, and cranium.
Tension and restrictions in these areas affect blood flow and the sensitivity of nerves inside your head. The resulting congestion creates pressure and the pain receptors fire much more readily.

Sometimes the mechanical discord may be occurring somewhere else in your body too! For example:
If the sacrum is out of alignment it can create a pull on the dura that attaches to it and continues upward to wrap around your entire spinal cord and brain!
If your ribs don’t move well you may not be getting optimal oxygen and carbon dioxide exchange.
Feet problems which create a chain effect up through your entire structural alignment.
And much more!

It’s the job of the Osteopath to assess your entire body and find out the root cause so we can make effective and sustainable changes!

Osteopaths follow a set of principles when we treat. We perform a thorough assessment of your body and treat the restrictions, mal-alignments, and dysfunctions in your anatomy.
The pelvis and lumbar spine are thought of as the foundation of your structure. So we make sure the foundation is level before treating structures above. This comprises
one of the many principles we follow in treatment: base up, center out.

As I treat this patient I am thinking about the fascia, muscles, joints, nerves, arteries, veins, lymphatics, and organs in the region and how the patients structural mechanics might be contributing to their symptoms.
