If you’ve ever found yourself having unexpected, scary thoughts after having a baby, please know you are not alone. 💌 Postpartum moments can bring happiness, while also introducing challenges that feel hard to navigate - and both types of experiences can exist at the same time!

The heightened sensitivity of the postpartum period can make scary/unwanted thoughts feel more intense. We call these “intrusive thoughts” and they are common after having a baby.

🧠 Having intrusive thoughts in postpartum -
• are not an indicator of your intentions as a parent;
• may bring feelings of shame or fear;
• can be upsetting and unwanted;
• can come on suddenly and without warning.

💭 Signs you may need support include -
• if thoughts are feeling constant and overwhelming;
• if functioning or connecting with your baby feels difficult;
• if intrusive thoughts are lingering for longer than 2 weeks.

It’s important to remember that the postpartum journey is different for everyone. ✨ Seeking support during the postpartum period is not a sign of weakness - it’s a sign of strength and care, for both yourself and your baby.

Quality mental health care should be accessible for all. ☺️ We’re excited to share that our Student Therapists, Taylor Fidler and Zara Uppal, are now accepting new clients for low to no cost!

Pay-what-you-can therapy means that the cost of each session is self-determined based on your income and financial situation, making it affordable and easier to get the support you need. Both students have backgrounds in community mental health and have each completed over 200 hours this year. While supporting their clients, they will accrue their program’s practicum requirements - all while being supervised by Kathy Wlodarczyk, RP.

Sessions are available in-person or virtually depending on needs and preferences. If you or someone you know has been considering therapy but cost has been a barrier, we welcome you to reach out! Visit twodoves.ca to learn more, or reach out via email: clientcare@twodoves.ca.

Struggling with past trauma that still feels present?
EMDR Therapy may help.

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a trauma-informed approach that helps your brain reprocess distressing memories. It's not going to erase the traumatic memory but will allow the memory to exist without the overstimulation leading to emotional dysregulation. 🧠

This powerful tool has helped many people feel more emotionally regulated, experience fewer triggers, and build a more compassionate relationship with themselves.

✨ Lina is now accepting new EMDR clients. If you're ready to learn more or get started, request an appointment through our website (twodoves.ca) or email us at clientcare@twodoves.ca.

National Day for Truth and Reconciliation (aka Orange Shirt Day) recognizes and honours the children who never came home and the survivors of residential schools, along with their families and communities. The orange shirt symbolizes the loss of culture, freedom, and self‑esteem many Indigenous children endured. It is a reminder of why .

🔸TRUTH means confronting the discomfort when learning about Canada’s colonial and Eurocentric history, the intergenerational trauma and harm inflicted, land and lives taken, cultures suppressed, and families broken. TRUTH is recognizing the impact of trauma and the decades of work it takes to be heard, to have a voice, to rebuild trust and safety for oneself, one’s family, and feeling safe to practice one’s culture and faith.

🔸RECONCILIATION has not been achieved; it is an ongoing process. We must learn to compassionately listen, deeply learn, and intentionally act to honour the Indigenous Nations whose land we live on, including the Anishinaabe and Haudenosaunee in St. Catharines, Kanata. Discomfort is part of this work - what is it asking of you, and what is your role in reconciliation?
