When children struggle to move from letter sounds to reading words, it is often a sign that blending needs more support.

Reading Gym uses multisensory, screen free tools grounded in the Science of Reading to strengthen grapheme phoneme correspondence and early literacy skills. Short, positive practice helps children feel capable and confident, especially those with learning differences, ADHD, or dyslexia.

You are not behind. You are building the foundation.

Want a fun, multisensory activity for practicing b’s and d’s? Grab a bag of rice and a plastic tray.

Start by having your child trace the letter b starting from the top and d from the bottom. This helps prevent reversals and builds confidence with correct letter formation.

Then have fun tracing the letters in the rice. Take turns with your child. It is tactile, engaging, and a great way to reinforce grapheme-phoneme correspondence in a positive way.

This simple activity only takes a few minutes and makes letter practice stress-free, hands-on, and multisensory. Bonus, it is guaranteed to make kids smile.

Want to make b and d practice more fun? Try this quick 5-minute Tic-Tac-Toe game.

Start by properly demonstrating how to form the letters. At Reading Gym, we teach that b starts at the top and d starts at the bottom. This simple cue really helps reduce letter reversals and builds confidence with correct formation.

Next, draw a Tic-Tac-Toe board and randomly call out b or d. If your child writes the letter correctly, they place an X. If not, you place an O. You can play until someone gets a line or keep going until the board is full.

This short, playful activity reinforces grapheme-phoneme correspondence, keeps kids engaged, and makes letter practice positive and stress-free.

Let us know if you plan on playing this one at home or in the classroom.
