Did you know many local fire departments offer free fire prevention programs for seniors, those with limited mobility, and the community? From home smoke and carbon monoxide alarm checks to fire safety education, these programs help keep everyone safe.
🧯 Local Fire Prevention Programs:
Niagara-on-the-Lake – Alarm Assistance Program
Free home visits to ensure smoke and carbon monoxide alarms are properly installed and functioning for seniors and people with disabilities.

Fort Erie – Fire Prevention Services
Offers educating residents of Fort Erie about fire prevention and safety. The S.A.F.E program was created to assist residents, who have limitations, to properly install and check their smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detector

St.Catharines-St. Catharines Fire Services offers several fire prevention programs, including the Arson Prevention Program for Children (TAPP-C) for fire-play issues, the Hot Summer Nights community events with fire safety demonstrations in parks, and the annual Fire Prevention Week campaigns, which in 2025 focused on lithium-ion battery safety.

Oct. 5: Niagara IceDogs’ Safety Display
Fire Prevention officers will educate and promote fire safety around lithium-ion batteries.
See Sparky the Fire Dog and the Niagara IceDogs’ mascot Bones rappel from the ceiling as the IceDogs host the Barrie Colts at 2 p.m. at the Meridian Centre, 1 David S. Howes Way.
