Each year, I learn more about genealogy as a way to honour and give thanks to the family members whose sacrifices made my life possible.

My great-grandfather, Gerard Garneau, married Andrée de Varennes. This year, I discovered that Andrée’s brother, Henri de Varennes, lost his life just before the end of World War I. My Ggf though wounded and with schrapnel, survived!

His name is inscribed in the Books of Remembrance displayed in the Memorial Chamber of the Parliament of Canada every year on May 21st and 22nd.

DYK: National Pain Awareness Week was last week.

In 2022, Statistics Canada reported that 4.9 million Canadians 15 years old and over have a pain-related disability.

With the numbers likely higher in 2025, it's clear that we need to work together to address this issue.

By prioritizing rehabilitation and optimizing functioning for the 16.7% of Canadians impacted, we can create a brighter future for everyone.

It's time for a national conversation on how we can better support Canadians' rehabilitation needs and unlock their full potential.
