Ever Wonder What That “Pop” Is During an Adjustment?

One of the most common questions we hear is:
“What actually happens during a chiropractic adjustment?”

When joints in the spine stop moving properly, it can lead to:
• stiffness
• muscle tension
• headaches
• neck or back pain

An adjustment is a precise movement applied to a specific joint to help restore normal motion.

Sometimes you’ll hear a “pop” or “crack.”

That sound isn’t bones snapping.
It’s simply gas releasing from the fluid inside the joint — similar to the sound when you open a can of pop.

Once the joint moves better, many people notice:
✔ less tension
✔ better mobility
✔ easier movement
✔ “I felt lighter”

Many patients say the same thing after their first adjustment:
“I didn’t realize how stiff I was until after.”

Curious:
Did you hear a pop during your first adjustment, or was it quiet?

Let us know below!!

And if you know someone dealing with neck pain, headaches, or back stiffness, feel free to share this post with them!

Pain Management in a Multidisciplinary Approach

Pain is complex—and so is healing. That’s why more and more healthcare providers are turning to multidisciplinary pain management: a collaborative model that brings together experts from different fields to provide patients with the most effective, personalized care possible.

At our clinic, chiropractic care plays a key role in this integrated approach.

Why Multidisciplinary Care Matters

When dealing with chronic or acute pain—whether from injury, surgery, posture, or repetitive strain—no single treatment method works for everyone. Pain may involve the muscles, joints, nerves, soft tissues, and even mental health. That’s where a multidisciplinary team can make a powerful difference.

By combining the strengths of chiropractic care with other therapies such as physiotherapy, massage therapy, medical care, and psychological support, patients receive a more complete and coordinated treatment plan.

The Chiropractor’s Role in Collaborative Pain Management

Chiropractors are trained to assess, diagnose, and treat mechanical disorders of the musculoskeletal system, particularly the spine. In a multidisciplinary team, a chiropractor:

• Identifies spinal and joint dysfunctions that may be contributing to pain

• Provides manual therapies like spinal adjustments, mobilizations, and soft tissue work
• Collaborates with physiotherapists to improve movement and function. We have one in-house

• Works with massage therapists to reduce muscle tension and improve circulation. We several on our clinical team

• Communicates with physicians and specialists for imaging, medication, or referral. We have an excellent referral relationship with several afterhours clinics

• Supports recovery plans that may include exercise, ergonomics, and lifestyle modifications

This team-based approach ensures that each provider brings their own expertise while working toward a common goal: getting the patient out of pain and back to life.

What Patients Can Expect

Patients in a multidisciplinary setting often report:
• Faster recovery times
• More thorough assessments
• Better long-term outcomes

• Reduced need for medications or invasive procedures
By treating the whole person, rather than just the symptoms, we can often achieve lasting pain relief that addresses the root cause—not just the surface.

Real-Life Example
Imagine a patient recovering from a car accident. They may benefit from:
• Chiropractic adjustments to restore spinal alignment
• Physiotherapy to rebuild strength and range of motion
• Massage therapy to relieve soft tissue tension
• Medical oversight for medication or imaging
• Mental health support if anxiety or PTSD is involved

Each provider contributes to the bigger picture, making care more effective and comprehensive.

Final Thoughts

Chiropractic care is an essential pillar in modern pain management—but it’s even more powerful when part of a team. At our clinic, we believe in collaboration, communication, and patient-centered care.
If you're struggling with pain, don’t settle for a one-size-fits-all solution. Talk to us about how multidisciplinary care can help you heal from every angle.

🚗 Concussion After a Car Accident? Collaborative Care Makes All the Difference. 🧠

After a car accident, even a mild concussion can leave you feeling off — headaches, brain fog, dizziness, neck pain, or trouble sleeping.

These symptoms are common, but they’re not normal... and they don’t always go away on their own.

At Gillis Chiropractic, we take a collaborative care approach to post-concussion recovery, combining:

✔️ Chiropractic care to correct spinal motion and support the nervous system

✔️ Massage therapy to reduce tension, improve circulation, and ease soft tissue strain

✔️ Physiotherapy to rebuild balance, coordination, and functional movement

Together, these therapies help reduce symptoms faster and restore your body’s ability to heal — naturally and effectively.

🧠 You don’t have to navigate recovery alone. We’re here to support you every step of the way.

📞 Call us today or book online to schedule your personalized post-accident assessment.
