Congrats to Terry Blizzard of Afterburn Performance Fitness Center on being named the Strength & Conditioning coach for the Saint John Sea Dogs. After spending 8 years working in the QMJHL I can say without a doubt that the Sea Dogs will now officially have the best of the best Strength programs in Canadian Junior Hockey. Great Move!

Congrats to former Sea Dog Coach, Gerard Gallant, on being named Head Coach of the Florida Panthers today!

He is hands down the best coach I have had the opportunity to work with over the years. A true class act. The Panthers future looks very bright.

It is true. Whatever is going on inside your head will have an influence on the rest of your body. Therefore, how you think, feel and behave will effect how you MOVE. .

hmmm.. maybe, just maybe, some of those aches and pains we experience really are in our heads (at least indirectly)... something to think about.

Have a great weekend! and stay POSITIVE :)

Do your hamstrings feel "tight"? You've been consistent with stretching them out but still no change? Often times what feels like hamstring tightness is an issue somewhere else in your body.

Ah, the hamstrings, the bane of many athletes’ existence. Yes, they can be very tight and get pulled/injured. The question is why? First you have to determine if they are functional or not. And you have to determine in what movement patterns they are dysfunctional or not. The most common relationship to look at is the quads. Are they over or under working causing the hamstrings to compensate? Maybe the glute max isn’t firing on all cylinders and the hamstrings have to work harder. While running and walking they have relationships to the opposite leg and arms. They also are involved in rotation during gait. So much more to consider than just a basic agonist/antagonist relationship. So before you decide to stretch or strengthen them, take some time to assess their functionality, make the appropriate corrections, and then determine your home exercise program. An NKT™ practitioner can be an invaluable resource.

*Announcement*

Jeff Kelly is now a certified RockDoc!

Last week I spent 2 days in New York City learning and assessing movement through the lens of Rocktape's Fascial Movement Taping course.

The highlight of this course was far and away the fact that it was taught by none other than Dr. Perry Nickelston of Stop Chasing Pain. This was the second time I have had the opportunity to learn from Dr. Nickelston. His approach to teaching movement assessment is second to none. Yes, we also did a little bit of taping too!
