Did you know that all Second Hand Store’s are governed by Health Canada and there are certain items that we are not allowed to take? If an inspector were to come in and see an item in the Vocational Centre Thrift Store that is on the Regulated List, we can be fined! 💵

Please take a look before you donate!

It takes a lot of time and energy to make sure these items don’t get into the Store & to ensure we follow the guidelines. Any help we can get in that process is greatly appreciated! ❤️❤️

People often ask us what we do not accept. Please keep this list in mind when you are bringing donations to us. 🤗
A good rule of thumb is to ask yourself 'will someone pay for this?'

If you think that your item would be better suited to be given away for free -there are many Facebook groups and community groups that love free items! ☺️

⛔Used safety equipment - such as helmets and car seats
⛔bicycles
⛔corded blinds
⛔propane containers
⛔fluorescent lights
⛔ Hideaway beds
⛔mattresses/ sofas that are soiled or stained
⛔Food
⛔VHS tapes
⛔soiled furniture
⛔Cribs
⛔Tube TVs
⛔Hazardous materials - oil paint, old varnish, broken batteries. Items that need special disposal.
⛔repaired electrical items - We like our lives and the lives of our customers. If we see that it's been repaired with electrical tape- it cannot be sold.🔌⚡🙅🏼‍♀️
⛔items that have visible mould or animal droppings.🐭
⛔Outdated textbooks/magazines

It takes a lot of time and energy to go through donations that are unsellable.
We are charged a lot of money for our garbage collection and more unsellable items translates to us paying more every week. 😞

Job Development connects adults with different abilities to meaningful employment opportunities by matching their strengths, interests, and abilities with the needs of your business.

Through a process called Job Carving, we work closely with employers to identify specific tasks or roles that fit an individual’s skills while supporting your operational goals. This approach helps streamline productivity, improve team morale, and foster an inclusive environment— all while giving someone the chance to thrive in meaningful work.
