I keep saying this and people don’t seem to get it. Yeah, people follow what their favourite influencer does, but they wouldn’t if their doctor had done anything to earn their trust. They wouldn’t if they were happy with their care. They wouldn’t if they felt seen and heard when they walked into the hospital. They wouldn’t if they never had a nurse that caused or compounded their trauma. The savior complex is only going to drive people to become their own saviors.

7 years ago, I shared this on Facebook. I was 33 weeks pregnant, not sleeping, and super frustrated that the only advice ever given for pregnancy insomnia amounted to “you have a hard time sleeping, so try to get some sleep.” Could we, collectively, as a society, frigging stop that?

Last call for my newborn baby care class! I only have a couple spaces left! We will be focusing on getting comfortable with skills like bathing, feeding, and swaddling, as well as going over updated safety recommendations because HOOO BOY there is a lot of information and almost none of it is readily available.

So many parents find themselves alone with their baby for the first time and think “oh my god, did my midwife (or the nurses) know that I don’t know what I’m doing? Whose idea was this??” Newborn care is a topic unto itself, which is why I’m giving this opportunity to come and learn some valuable skills.
Prepare for postpartum as much as you prepare for your birth.

It’s not just about comforting the baby! It’s about learning how YOU can best comfort the baby, practicing that, being comfortable with it, and building a bond with your child. It may be harder at first, but it’s worth the time it takes to build the skills and the bond 🩵
