Thank you Eric for this article.

Despite John Lennon’s enduring lyric, Strawberry Fields may not be forever.

It is with great sadness that Anne and Rick have decided that they will not be having this festival.

We almost made it to 30 years, but various factors: the insecurity of the year to year rental of the flying field, which is for sale; the health of the two festival runners; the lack of promotion, assistance and funding from any level of government and tourism organizations; COVID related changes in how we all interact has dictated the decision to close the festival.

We hope that someone else takes it on and facilitates a new kite event.

It was a good 29 years. Thanks to everyone who came and flew.

Update:
Our release from the lockdown is not working for the Kite Festival. Not this year.
But would anyone be up for a more informal Family Fly?
Anne and Joan want to gauge Interest for a fall meetup.

This could end up being a regular thing!

The light is getting brighter day by day. Not quite spring, but soon! And that means kite flying.

We still have Covid-19 with us, unfortunately, but we may be able to have some fun in 2021!

Until we hear otherwise, we are planning for our big 30th Anniversary Festival.

We are asking people who are interested in coming to the festival to get a ticket (still FREE), which will enable us to get data around who is interested. This will enable us to better plan several parts of the festival, including how many food trucks to invite.
Get your tickets from this site: https://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/4769622

The Kites:
There are various ways to get a kite.
DIY:
We are making available a pattern for our kites on our website, so that these kites can be made at home. They are simple kites, but if you got one last year or in previous years, you will know how easy they are to make and to fly. www.strawberryfieldskitefestival.com

We will have kites available at the festival for a small donation.

We are also thinking of making the kites available to buy online. Let us know if you like this option.

There will be more information as the date gets closer.

Cheers!
Anne, Rick and Joan

Strawberry Fields Kite Festival - Go fly a kite!

The Strawberry Fields Kite Festival is located on the grounds of the former St. Thomas Psychiatric Hospital in St. Thomas. It is our twenty-ninth year, making it one of the oldest kite festivals in Ontario. It has always been a free festival.

The Strawberry Fields Kite Festival has now grown to become a two-day event attracting kite fliers and kite watchers from all over North America to enjoy the activities presented on what is considered to be the largest (and best) kite flying field in southwestern Ontario.

We feature a free Make-Your-Own Kite workshop for the kids. The open grassy area provides a perfect spot for the kids, parents and anyone at all to fly their kite.We are planning an augmented kids area: free kite making, play areas, face painting, henna and temporary tattoos.
