Did you know that healthcare-associated infections can be reduced by nearly half with proper hand hygiene? That’s the power of a simple habit we can all take part in.

Today, on World Hand Hygiene Day, we’re recognizing our team members who make hand hygiene a priority in everything they do. Our scouts were out celebrating staff across the hospital, and Marlene, one of our Speech-Language Pathologists, was a lucky recipient of a small prize!

Thank you to everyone doing their part to keep our hospital safe... one hand wash at a time!

Today, on International Day of the Midwife, we’re proud to recognize and celebrate our partners at Elgin County Midwives.

Midwives play an important role in supporting families through pregnancy, labour, birth, and the early days of parenthood. Their commitment to personalized care makes a meaningful for patients and their families.

At STEGH, we’re grateful for the strong collaboration we share with Elgin County Midwives. Together, we work to ensure safe, supportive, and positive birth experiences for the families we serve.

Thank you to the midwives in our community for your dedication and expertise.

Today, we recognize Red Dress Day - the National Day of Awareness for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and Two-Spirit People.

Across Canada, red dresses are displayed as a powerful symbol of lives lost, families impacted, and the ongoing call for justice.

At STEGH, a red dress has been placed within our hospital as a visible reminder to pause, reflect, and honour those affected.

We stand in solidarity with Indigenous communities and acknowledge the importance of not only awareness, but learning and action.

We have temporarily closed our Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) to admissions due to a respiratory outbreak.

We are working closely with regional partners to support any patients requiring NICU care.

The NICU is closed to visitors, with the exception of parents/caregivers who are feeling well.

Outbreak management protocols are in place, and we continue to monitor the situation closely.

This week is NAOSH Week (Health & Safety Week). We are reminded of how important it is to keep employee health and safety front of mind every day.

We join organizations across Canada who are recognizing the importance of preventing injury and illness, not just in the workplace, but at home and in our communities too.

At STEGH, safety is part of everything we do. It’s how we care for each other, support our teams, and create a healthy environment for our patients and community.

This week is a great opportunity to pause, reflect, and think about the small actions we can take to keep ourselves and those around us safe. Safety isn’t just a priority, it’s a shared responsibility. Canadian Centre for Occupational Health and Safety - CCOHS

Today, we’re celebrating Doctor’s Day at STEGH.

With more than 220 physicians across a wide range of specialties, their impact is felt in every corner of our hospital and throughout our community.

While our Chief of Staff, Dr. Van Daalen, is away today, she made rounds yesterday across the hospital to share treats and personally thank our physicians for the care and compassion they bring to their work every day.

We’re proud to work with such a dedicated group of professionals. Thank you for everything you do.

Last night, we were proud to host an evening focused on strengthening coordinated care for individuals living with opioid use disorder.

In collaboration with Central Community Health Centre & the St. Thomas Rapid Access Addiction Medicine (RAAM) Clinic, we welcomed primary care providers and pharmacists from across Elgin and beyond to connect, learn, and share.

We were fortunate to have so many community partners in the room, highlighting the range of services available to support individuals and families in our community. The level of collaboration and thoughtful discussion made for a truly meaningful evening.

Events like this are a reminder of what’s possible when we come together with a shared goal. We look forward to building on this momentum and hosting similar opportunities in the future.

A special thank you to Steel Grill Catering for the delicious meal.

Today, on the National Day of Mourning, we pause to remember workers who lost their lives, were injured, or became ill because of their work.

We honour their memory by renewing our commitment to health and safety in every workplace. Every worker deserves to return home safe at the end of the day.

Let today be a reminder that prevention matters, safety matters, and people always come first.

Celebrating Patient Experience Week at STEGH with the people who make it all meaningful.

From patients and caregivers to our incredible staff and Patient Family Advisors, our booth in the Atrium today invited everyone to reflect and share: “When I am a patient/provider/caregiver, I want to feel…”

Across every voice, one message stood out - the desire to feel heard, understood, and supported.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by, shared their perspective, and helped bring these important conversations to life. And a special thank you to Honeycakepastry for generously providing cupcakes and supporting our booths throughout this week.
