A great start to the day! As part of Wellness Week, our Executive Team hosted a staff appreciation breakfast this morning - treating teams to “Steggie” breakfast sandwiches and a beverage as a small thank you for everything they do.

It was a simple gesture, but a meaningful one. We’re grateful for our teams every day, and it was nice to take a moment to show it.

Wellness Week is in full swing at STEGH!

From live music with John Milles Music to workouts, massages, singing bowls, reflexology, chiropractic, therapy dogs, singing bowls, games in the Atrium, watercolour painting, and snack carts making their way around the hospital (just to name a few)- it’s been a great week of connection, energy, and a few well-deserved breaks.

We’ve loved seeing so many of our teams take a moment to recharge, try something new, and spend time together.

Here’s a look at some of the moments so far this week...

Today, we’re recognizing and celebrating Eid, a meaningful occasion for many in our community.

Eid marks the end of Ramadan, a time of reflection, generosity, and connection. It’s often celebrated by gathering with loved ones and sharing a special meal.

To mark the occasion, our Atrium Café is featuring a traditional-inspired lunch with seasoned chicken, rice, fattoush salad, and dates - foods commonly enjoyed when breaking the fast and celebrating together.

Eid Mubarak to all who are celebrating!

Today we’re celebrating the little moments that brighten our days - kindness between colleagues, compassion for our patients, and the strong sense of community that makes our hospital so special.

Wishing you a safe and happy St. Patrick’s Day!

Emergency Department Update – Friday, March 13 (3 p.m.)

Due to high patient volumes in our Emergency Department and increased ambulance arrivals, we are currently experiencing significant pressures related to inpatient capacity. This is resulting in longer-than-usual wait times for care in the ED.

These pressures are expected to continue through the weekend.

If your medical concern is not urgent, please consider accessing alternate care options where appropriate: https://www.stegh.on.ca/hospital-services/emergency-department/alternate-options-for-care/

We appreciate the community’s patience and understanding as our teams continue to care for patients with the most urgent needs.

Sometimes the smallest messages make the biggest impact. One of our young visitors left this note on a whiteboard in our main hallway, and it absolutely warmed our hearts on a cold day. Moments like this remind us why we do what we do. Thank you, Oliver - we love our community right back.

Over the past month, STEGH hosted two Indigenous learning sessions in collaboration with the Southwest Ontario Aboriginal Health Access Centre. These sessions provided staff with an opportunity to deepen their understanding of Indigenous peoples’ experiences within the health care system and the historical factors that continue to influence health and wellbeing today.

Participants explored the importance of cultural safety, the impact it has on patient experience and health outcomes, and how recognizing harm can help us rethink patient safety. The sessions also encouraged reflection on how we can provide culturally safe care when working with Indigenous patients and families.

This week, we recognize and thank our incredible team of hospital dietitians for the important role they play in patient care at STEGH.

Through their expertise, compassion, and dedication, they help patients navigate nutrition-related challenges, support recovery, and promote long-term health and wellness. From conducting nutrition assessments and developing individualized care plans to educating patients and families, their work makes a meaningful difference every day. We are grateful for the knowledge, care, and commitment they bring to our teams and the patients we serve.

Thank you to (from left) Delayne, Ashley, Kelsey, Lindsay and Allison (missing from photo) for everything you do. Happy Dietitians Day!
