People rarely make the correlation. 22 years ago we had a new patient in our practice in England complaining of chronic neck and back pain. Young successful professional, worked in the financial district of London, a real shaker and mover but was struggling with debilitating neck/LBP (Low Back Pain). Apparently it “came out if nowhere”. When doing history during a New Patient intake, Dr. Gage always asks about childhood trauma. When he queried this patient, the patient reported back: “nothing significant”. Warren’s gut told him different and to shoot a series of X-rays - the pain, palpitation and history weren’t adding up. When he sat down to review the x-rays there was significant trauma in this lads spine. He showed his patient his findings and again asked: “are you certain you didn’t have any accidents as a child….?”. The patient reported back with: “Well….I did fall out of a tree and was in a coma for a week when I was 10. That wouldn’t have anything to do with this, would it?!” 😳. YES. Yes it would and it did. His x-rays showed old injuries. Those accidents and falls in childhood can come back to haunt you as an adult! It’s why having your kids checked and regularly adjusted is so important for their health. It’s not about pain, it’s about detecting and correcting subluxation (spinal misalignments/stuck patterns) before they work into bigger problems that can last a lifetime.
