Thank you Salmon Arm!
20 years ago and fresh off a plane from living abroad after 5 years, two young, ambitious, passionate and enthusiastic people needed to find a new place to call “home”. Salmon Arm was the chosen final destination!
Originally from Merritt B.C. these two small town kids departed the safety and familiarity of our hometown in 2001. Our goal was to expand our chiropractic knowledge and experience, whilst exploring the planet. We left behind a successful primary practice in Merritt B.C. and a satellite office in Princeton B.C. (both of which we loved). We packed up our lives, sold a good portion of our possessions and moved to London England, later followed by Dublin Ireland. The experience and connections we made overseas were invaluable. We worked hard and coached with some of the biggest, most successful chiropractors in Europe. We honed our skills and lived an adventurous European life. Going from a town with a population of 7000 to a city of 9.9 million was not only culture shock, we were thrown into complete anonymity. While it was exciting, new and fun, after 5 years the novelty of living in a foreign country wears off. The pace of those huge cities is manic. We missed small community living and smiling, familiar faces. Fresh air, mountains and wide open spaces had become a priority. We wanted/needed that again, it was time to come home.
Saying goodbye to our European patients, staff and colleagues was difficult - we still miss them terribly to this day. We were treated like gold in our practices and had developed (what would turn out to be) life-long friendships with many of them. Through loads of tears and a brilliant send off from our UK & Irish patients and staff we headed home.
When we landed in Canada we knew what we wanted but had no idea where that would be. Warren wanted mountains, I wanted water. We explored the interior of B.C. and then discovered this little gem nestled in the beautiful Shuswap. We found our building (which was brand-new, but a completely empty shell that was begging for a wellness chiropractor😉) and Warren got to work swinging a hammer. He completed the renovations and on this day (Feb 25, 2006), we opened Harbourfront Family Chiropractic!
20 years later we have built deep, meaningful connections with our patients, staff and community that we wouldn’t trade for the world. We have had the great privilege of watching our patient’s young families grow up. Our pediatric patients now have their own young families and their parents have become grandparents! It’s such a honor for us to have generations of family members under care in the office. Healthy families in regularly scheduled, chiropractic wellness care, raising healthy families which in turn, builds a healthy community! Our job is not only fun but incredibly rewarding.
Here’s to at least 20 more years and hopefully another generation of children. Warren’s future plans are to “retire while still in practice” which means your chiropractor has many, many years of quality care and adjustments left in him🥰
Thank you Salmon Arm for welcoming the Gages with open arms in 2006 and allowing us to provide care for your families. We feel blessed everyday that we have the privilege to call our patients our friends and the Shuswap our home❤️
