Offering IUD insertions in a gentle, patient-centred, trauma informed way has become one of the things I am most passionate about in my practice. So many people have heard horror stories about this procedure (or experienced it themselves) and I truly believe it doesn't have to be this way. I offer pain management, as well as a calm, grounded environment, a slower pace, and really clear communication the whole way through. All of which meaningfully lowers the perception of pain.

IUDs are one of the most effective methods of birth control ("set it and forget it"), and are also helpful for people struggling with heavy periods, perimenopausal heavy periods, low iron and fatigue because of heavy periods... It is such meaningful work to help someone have an experience that feels supported, respectful, and nothing like the stories they’ve been told. I really love that I get to hold my patients in this procedure and experience with a deep level of attunement and gentle care.

I'm making a tradition of offering 2 free IUD insertions - it's a nice way to give back at this time of year. If you or someone you know would benefit from doing this with an ND, please spread the word! I offer gentle, patient-centred, trauma informed IUD insertions. There are so many horror stories out there about IUD insertions and it 100% does not have to be this way. I'm really passionate about offering a better experience and reducing barriers to this highly effective method of birth control.

So proud of Madrona's new website! We've been building this for a year and it's finally live. Our Open House is today!! 3-6pm at 1-105 Rainbow Rd, Salt Spring Island. Come learn more about our integrative & holistic approach to care. I’m baaaaaack! Trying out this social media thing again.

I’ve found it hard in the past to maintain a healthy relationship with Instagram in particular. It sucks me in too easily, and then somehow I find it taking up all the spaces and pauses in the in between moments. I need those moments! So, better boundaries, I hope.

Excited to be back and sharing again. Instagram can be very much a creative practice and I’m just as much an artist as doctor and administrator. I’ve been up to so much with we have lots to share. Thanks for hanging out!

Me doing facial acupuncture with .sambowen! I totally surprised even myself by how much I loved this treatment, which involves acupuncture (facial and full body), LED light therapy for cell regeneration, and a glorious facial massage. I don’t tend to think all that much about my skin health and focus more on taking care of myself through movement, sleep, and balanced diet, so this deep tending to this part of my body was a surprise pleasure. I came away with my face feeling fresh, vibrant, and invigorated. It felt gentle but also powerful - I plan to make this treatment a part of my regular self care routine!
