A Saskatchewan Story,
Part 1 of 2
Remembering Good Old Days
Not to many people know or want to know or care to know that in the 90’s and early 2000’s Saskatchewan was the Western Center for Pediatric Heart Surgery. Winnipeg was facing major challenges and Edmonton and Vancouver were not at today’s levels. I am still scratching my head and other parts trying to understand the strategy ( if any) to let this service go, the service that was putting Saskatchewan on the Pediatric Health Map and would’ve triggered huge resources for many years to come. As many people know I am not originally from Saskatchewan but I made this province my home and as a Pediatrician, I will always advocate for children’s health in Saskatchewan. I struggle many times to understand this culture that we shouldn’t be aiming to high and we should ask the other provinces for help instead of creating our own resources. I struggled for many years to convince the nonbelievers that we need a Children’s Hospital and today we have a state of the art hospital, Jim Pattinson Children Hospital
Reintroducing Dr. Roxanne McKay, Pediatric Cardiac Surgeon, who brought so much joy, health and expertise to our children, families and province.
