Both EMDR and ART use eye movements to help the brain process trauma—but the experience can feel very different.
ART (Accelerated Resolution Therapy) is often described as a gentler option:
• You don’t need to retell or relive the trauma out loud
• Uses guided imagery and eye movements
• Focuses on how memories are stored, not the details
• Many people experience relief more quickly
• Feels more contained and less emotionally overwhelming
EMDR is also effective, but usually involves more verbal processing and revisiting memories.
