The Spring Paradox of Prairie Light
The spring light here is wild.
Right now in Saskatchewan we can see 80,000–100,000 lux (light intensity)…
with minimal UV.

That means your brain is getting a massive daylight signal
even though your body isn’t fully in summer mode yet.
This isn’t random.
It’s how the system is designed.

Light → circadian rhythm → hormones → metabolism → UV later

Your body is being primed for what’s coming.
And in a couple months?
Extreme light + UV

14–16 hours a day
But most people are inside under 300–500 lux.
So the signal never fully lands.

And that’s where we see:
• poor sleep
• low energy
• hormone disruption
• metabolic resistance

This environment isn’t harsh.
It’s powerful.

And it exists in very few places on Earth—
wide open sky, snow reflection, clear atmosphere.

We are built different here.

A Different Kind of Medicine

What I offer isn’t a replacement for doctors.
Doctors are important.
Hospitals save lives every day.

But there has always been another form of care that lived alongside medicine.

The kind practiced by midwives, bodyworkers, herbalists, and village wise women.

Care that begins with observation.
Care that uses hands, rhythm, and time.

Long before lab tests existed, women were taught to read the body.

Cycle shifts.
Digestive changes.
Pelvic sensations.
Energy rhythms.

The body was never considered mysterious.
It was considered knowable.

In many ways, what I do today is simply a continuation of that older tradition.

Hands-on work.
Body literacy.
Learning how to listen to the signals the body gives long before illness develops.

You could think of it as a kind of biology school for your own body.
Not alternative medicine.
Not anti-medicine.

Just another layer of understanding that has existed for generations.
And for many women, rediscovering that knowledge changes everything.

Your Nervous System Is Not Broken

Many women are told they have:
Anxiety
ADHD
Burnout
Chronic stress

Sometimes medication helps.
Sometimes it doesn't.

But what I often see in the body is something different.

A nervous system that has simply been living too long without safety signals.

Touch.
Breath.
Light.
Movement.
Human connection.

These are biological regulators.
When those inputs return, the body often reorganizes itself.

Not instantly.
But steadily.

The nervous system is not fragile.
It is adaptive.

And when it is supported properly, it remembers how to settle again.

Prevention Is the Real Medicine

Most cultures didn't wait for illness.
They tended the body regularly.

Massage.
Herbal baths.
Seasonal food.
Movement.
Rest.

The village wise woman didn't see women only when something was wrong.

She saw them so things stayed right.

Somewhere along the way we lost that rhythm.
Now many women only seek help when symptoms become loud enough.

But biology loves attention long before crisis.
Small support given early can prevent years of frustration later.

This is why I work the way I do.
Hands-on care.
Rhythm.
Listening.

Not because something is broken.
Because the body thrives when it is tended.

Mid-winter in Saskatchewan and I’m laying on the ground in my sauna.🔥✨️❄️
Not because I’m trying to be extreme! Because biology runs on physics.

Your cells make energy by moving electrons.
Inside the mitochondria there’s a tiny power line called the electron transport chain.
Electrons move down that line step by step.

At the final step something incredible happens:
Oxygen + electrons + hydrogen → water
Your mitochondria literally manufacture water inside your cells.

Scientists call this metabolic water.
This water organizes around proteins and membranes and helps the whole system run smoothly.

Now add two things:
• Infrared heat from the sauna
• Electrons from the Earth when skin touches the ground

Heat increases circulation and activates repair pathways.
The Earth holds a massive reservoir of electrons that can help buffer oxidative stress.

So laying on the ground isn’t random.
It’s heat + electrons + water.

Which is basically the same recipe life has been using to run biology for billions of years.

Sometimes health isn’t about adding more supplements.
Sometimes it’s just remembering the physics of being human.

A woman sits across from me in the treatment room and says something I hear almost every week.

“My labs are normal… but something still feels off.”
Her doctor isn't wrong, the labs probably are normal.

But the body speaks long before disease shows up on paper.
It whispers through small things.

Sleep that doesn’t feel restorative, cycles that shift.
Digestion that’s a little unpredictable or a strange tightness in the pelvis. Energy that used to be there but isn’t anymore.

Modern medicine is excellent at diagnosing disease.

But wise women were trained in something different.

We listened for patterns before pathology.
The body has always spoken this way. Symptoms aren't nuisances, they're information. And when someone finally learns how to listen, the body often relaxes in relief.

This is the kind of work I do with women.

The Sunny D Experiment ☀️

At this latitude, vitamin D goes quiet in deep winter.
But right now?
It’s starting to come back online! Slowly, subtly, right around solar noon.

So I’m paying attention.

Protocol (N = 1):
• Before solar noon: sauna / movement / heat / SUN
(warm tissues, open circulation, wake the system)
• At solar noon: step outside
• Full skin exposure OR as much as possible ;)
• Eyes open, relaxed gaze (no need to look directly at sun ever)
• Just a few minutes, that’s the window

This isn’t about standing in the cold hoping for magic.
It’s about being ready when UVB shows up.

What I’m tracking:
• Energy
• Mood
• Warmth retention
• Sleep depth
• Sense of coherence

No labs.
No optimization theatre.

Just timing, light, and relationship.

Spring doesn’t arrive all at once.
Biology comes back online in increments.

If there’s a window,
I want my body listening when it opens.

Modern light is flattening your biology.

We evolved with fire, sunrise, high noon, sunset, and true darkness. Light shifted gradually. The spectrum changed naturally. Intensity rose and fell in predictable rhythms.

Now we’ve compressed all of that into one constant glow.
We live under overhead blue-rich light at night. We spend our days indoors under low lux levels. Screens sit inches from our eyes. Outdoor exposure is minimal. The contrast our circadian system evolved to expect is gone.

Indoor light might hover around 100–500 lux. Outdoor daylight reaches 10,000 to 100,000 lux. That difference matters.

Your biology was built for variation. For rhythm. For contrast.
When light is flattened, the signal is flattened. And when the signal is flattened, timing drifts.

Sleep drifts. Hormones drift. Energy regulation drifts.
We’ve normalized those struggles. We manage them. Supplement them. Power through them.

Lots of people talk about “light.”

But most don’t understand how the EYE uses it, or the actual pathway it runs through your body.

Come explore this IN DEPTH in a way that’s easy to understand.

Morning light hitting your retina triggers the cortisol awakening response, your biological “start signal.”

Night light (especially blue-enriched indoor light) suppresses melatonin and delays your internal clock.

But here’s what most people aren’t told:
→Your retina is wired directly into the brain’s master clock (the SCN).
→And that clock coordinates peripheral clocks in your liver, ovaries, gut, immune cells.

Sleep isn’t isolated.
It’s coordinated.
If light timing is off, the whole system drifts.
