On March 24th, 1892, Dr. Robert Koch, a German physician and microbiologist, announced to a small group of fellow scientists, he had identified the bacillus responsible for tuberculosis. This achievement would pave the way to diagnose and treat this devastating illness.

To commemorate his critical discovery and to raise global awareness, the World Health Organization has designated March 24th as World Tuberculosis Day. This year’s campaign theme: Yes! We Can End TB: Commit, Invest, Deliver, offers strategies to confront and redress the continuing threat TB poses. To learn more, go to: https://www.who.int/campaigns/world-tb-day/2025

Today we celebrate !

Since 1991, November 14 has served as a day that unites the global diabetes community to raise awareness. The date was chosen in honour of the birthday of Canadian Sir Frederick G. Banting, who, along with Dr. Charles Best (founder of the Canadian Diabetes Association now known as Diabetes Canada), JRR Macleod and James Collip, are credited with the discovery of insulin.

To show your support, light your house with blue lights, wear blue and share your personal stories to add your voice to the thousands of others who will be uniting for the day.

Don't forget to use to join the conversation on social media.

The internet provides an opportunity for the open sharing of scientific knowledge around the world and across disciplines. However, most research is GIVEN to very large companies then SOLD back to us, typically via libraries. These companies make mega profits, and their prices increase year after year. It's an unsustainable system! The Open Access movement started in 2002 and supports FREE access to research. The Guardian article above is long but very interesting. Link in bio to learn more about Open Access. A better way is possible!
