Wonderful opportunity to learn, share and uplift language revitalization. This course is sponsored by Métis Nation British Columbia (MNBC) and as a result, is FREE for everyone. Dr. Nadeau previously participated in this course and was overwhelmed by the beautiful community it projects and it is run by an amazing non-profit with multiple other learning opportunities.

We invite ALL Métis and willing non-Métis allies who wish to learn to uplift language revitalization. This course is sponsored by Métis Nation British

Some new traditions for the holidays? Evening walks with warm drinks, soup and snow soccer in the park, yoga pose freeze tag with the kids? Incorporating more movement into the holidays can bring more joy and Katy has lots of suggestions about how to make the holidays less sedentary.

A class regular came in the other day noting that all the progress she had made on a frozen shoulder had been undone by nine months of sitting inside reading. Her comments reminded me of…

Our third and last session in the inaugural Partners in Pain event series was great! We had presentations from Tracy Fichtner and Taylor Raiche on resources for dealing with pain, from Wanda Poirer on her personal pain journey, and from Wendy Nesseth on the importance of mind-body connections through gentle yoga. We had 31 people participating!

Don't forget to keep an eye out for future events through the Improving Pain in Saskatchewan project.

We will be taking the following precautions to ensure both our and our patients safety:

- All patients will be required to wear a mask provided by us during their time in the clinic.

Here is an excellent resource from Katy Bowman, a biomechanist, for understanding how to breathe better and the various components to address so your chest, back and shoulders have improved mobility as well:

HOW TO MOVE YOUR BREATHING PARTS BETTER This seems like a really good time to talk about breathing and how the amount of oxygen you take in is affected by your musculoskeletal system. If you know you’re driving into a storm, you check your headlights and windshield wipers to make sure they’re wo...

Many interesting studies are surfacing demonstrating that your mental well-being, social interactions and overall mood are correlated with what you eat and taking supplements of prebiotics and probiotics just doesn’t cut it. Eating foods naturally high in prebiotics and probiotics as well as fermented foods is associated with the most diverse intestinal microbiome and positive mental and social factors.

The gut microbiome has a measurable impact on the brain, influencing stress, anxiety, depressive symptoms and social behaviour. This microbiome–gut–br…

We've obtained infrared goggles: black-out goggles with cameras in them to record eye movements.

These are used to test vestibulo-ocular (inner ear influence on eye movement) and cervico-ocular (neck receptors influence on eye movement) reflexes as these can definitely play a significant part in chronic neck pain.

Here is the conclusion from a clinical trial published in Experimental Brain Research last year:

"Severely impaired chronic neck pain patients have an
elevated cervical-ocular reflex and an unchanged vestibulo-ocular reflex compared to healthy controls. This elevation seems to be independent of the traumatic or non-traumatic origin of complaints. The group of neck pain patients with altered eye stabilization reflexes is thereby bigger than suspected."

Migraine treatments are evolving and recognizing the large part that the cranial nerves and brainstem have in its pathology. These non-invasive therapies were recently FDA-approved in the USA and are not available in Canada and include a device that gently puffs air into the ear canal to stimulate the vague nerve and a nerve stimulation device that electrically affects the top branch of the trigeminal nerve on the forehead.

2018 may have been a pivotal year in migraine treatment with the release of CGRP monoclonal antibodies, but that was merely the first wave of new treatments for people with migraine disease. As 2019 winds down, there are more promising treatments in the pipeline than ever before, all aiming at diffe...
