Most people think of posture as something you fix by sitting up straighter or pulling your shoulders back. But there’s a factor that shapes how you hold yourself all day long, and it’s one you’re repeating about 20,000 times a day without a second thought. It’s your breathing pattern.

A herniated disc (also called bulged, slipped or ruptured) is a fragment of the disc nucleus that is pushed into the spinal canal through a tear or rupture in the annulus (a ring shaped structure). Discs that become herniated usually are in an early stage of degeneration. A herniated disc is often caused by a single excessive strain or injury. However, disc material can degenerate over time due to subluxations, and the area can become weak. Due to this degeneration, a relatively minor strain or twisting movement can cause a disc to rupture.

Common symptoms of a herniated disc include: back pain, numbness or tingling into the arms or legs, pain in the arms or legs, muscle weakness.

Fortunately, the majority of herniated discs do not require surgery. Chiropractic care is a conservative method of helping the spine heal properly and reduce pain. Do you have any of the symptoms above? Call us today at 306-651-2225 to find out how we can help!

Kelsey has a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology from the University of Saskatchewan and really enjoys being a part of the health and wellness industry. She is currently in school for nursing and is passionate about expanding her ability to help others.

She was introduced to chiropractic care at a young age, and it has helped manage headaches that were affecting everyday tasks. It was because of the relief she found through chiropractic care that helped her decide she wanted to help people with similar experiences.

In her free time, Kelsey enjoys spending time with her husband and family, taking care of her very energetic puppy named Archer, and unwinding with shows that involve supernatural entities or true crime.

Ever wonder what that "pop" really means? Many patients notice a popping or cracking sound during a chiropractic adjustment. This sound is completely normal and is caused by a small release of gas within the joint.

Our joints contain fluid that helps them move smoothly. When a chiropractor performs an adjustment, the joint is gently moved, creating a quick change in pressure. This pressure change allows gas bubbles in the joint fluid to release, which produces the popping sound.

The sound itself is not bones cracking and it is not harmful. The goal of a chiropractic adjustment is to restore proper movement to the joint and help reduce stress on the surrounding muscles and tissues. When the spine is moving properly, it allows the body to function more efficiently and support the natural healing process.
