SWITCH - Student Wellness Initiative Toward Community Health

A student-led interdisciplinary wellness project that provides free health and outreach services

SWITCH is a student-led interdisciplinary wellness organization based out of the Westside Community Clinic. The aim of the project is to provide free walk-in health and outreach services to the residents of Saskatoon’s core neighbourhoods. In addition to traditional clinical services, we offer counselling, speech language pathology, physical therapy, chiropractic, acupuncture, cultural supports, gynecology, pediatrics, nutritional education, drop-in educational programming, and other outreach services.

Love is in the air at SWITCH!😍💘

Earlier today, volunteers were asked what they loved most about SWITCH, and here are their answers!🤩

Our outreach team worked very hard today, facilitating a DIY laundry soap programming session! They also helped in providing all other outreach services, including free meals, street squad, and childminding! Amazing job!😎

Last night, SWITCH volunteer Sam Rezazadeh (JD) led an educational programming session on renters' rights, which was available for community members to attend for free, as is the case for all of SWITCH's programming sessions!🏠

Community members and student volunteers found last night's session to be informative and educational. Sam has been an extremely dedicated volunteer at SWITCH, and we would like to give our profound thanks and gratitude for his amazing service to the community!🤩

Happy belated birthday to our Volunteer Coordinator, Mikaela!🥳

Mikaela first took on the role of SWITCH Volunteer Coordinator in 2024, and has since done tremendous work in ensuring medical and outreach services are provided to the community, while also overseeing the recruitment, training, and retention of volunteers!

Cake was provided to community members and volunteers last shift!🍰

Thank you again to Mikaela for her tremendous service!🤩

As temperatures dropped last night, SWITCH volunteers were able to provide warm clothes to patients and community members accessing SWITCH and Westside Community Clinic services, with the help of donations provided by Warman Home Centre.❄️

Volunteers also paid a visit to the nearby St. Mary's Warming Location operated by the Salvation Army, a part of the Saskatoon Winter Emergency Response which provides a safe location during extreme cold to people experiencing houselessness. There, volunteers were able to provide extra clothes and meals.

We were also fortunate to be joined by Stacey from the SHA, who provided an educational programming session on nutrition while community members accessed clothing and hot meals. Thank you to Stacey for dropping by!

Thank you again to Warman Home Centre for the donations, and to our amazing outreach volunteers for their incredible service last night. You are all making a true difference in the community!🙂

SWITCH volunteers are STELLAR!!!💫

Lil' appreciation post to our amazing outreach volunteers from last Saturday and Monday! Everyone worked hard in helping to serve meals to the community, as well as running our educational programming sessions!🫕

Our clinical services will return on Wednesday, January 28th. In addition, clinical services will be readily accessible for many of the SWITCH days in February, along with our usual social services!

Great work, everyone!😍
