December has been a fun-filled and busy month for everyone here at Elmwood, but especially for our Recreation and Community Inclusion Program teams as residents have enjoyed all the holiday celebrations the season has had to offer. 🎄

Episode 2 of our feature on the YXE Underground podcast is now live! 🎉

In Episode 1, listeners joined us inside one of our Community Homes to learn more about the individuals Elmwood serves. Episode 2 looks ahead to the future of Elmwood and explores the vision behind the Community Hub. ✨

This new episode features Executive Director Dani Carr, Manager of Community Engagement Maggie Stevenson, and Jackie Smith, Capital Campaign cabinet member and daughter of one of Elmwood’s founders. Together, they explore the Community Hub project in greater depth and discuss the impact it will have on the Disability Community and on Saskatoon as a whole. 💖

Elmwood’s Community Inclusion Program (CIP) is hosting one final craft sale this year on December 23rd! Stop by the Kinsmen Manor from 1 PM to 3 PM to shop a variety of handmade crafts, including ornaments and décor created by Elmwood residents as part of CIP’s Entrepreneur Group. 🎨

It’s a great chance to find thoughtful, last‑minute Christmas gifts while supporting our community. 💖

Meet our December VIP, Mitch R.! ✨

Mitch joined Elmwood’s Supportive Independent Living Program (SILP) in 2023 and has experienced remarkable growth, especially in the past year!

When he joined SILP, Mitch wanted to focus on gaining steady employment and living independently. This year he reached both goals, securing work as a security guard at a grocery store, as well as making the move to his own suite in September. 🏡

Way to go Mitch, we are so proud of you!

This month, we’re thrilled to celebrate Mary Jo (MJ) for achieving her personal goal of enjoying more one-on-one outings through Elmwood’s Community Inclusion Program (CIP)! 💖

When MJ worked on her Person-Centred Plan, she shared her goal of having more personalized, intimate outings and the CIP team was excited to make it happen. Since then, MJ has embraced every opportunity, from brunch dates and arts & crafts sessions to trips to the Exhibition, manicures, and peaceful walks by the river. 🥞💅

Over the summer, MJ decided to invite her friend Doris C. to join in on the fun! Together, they’ve enjoyed ice cream treats at Smoove, lunch outings, and shopping sprees. MJ’s enthusiasm and bright smile make every outing a treat and she’s always planning the next adventure with the CIP crew. ✨

We couldn’t be happier to support MJ in reaching her goal and creating these meaningful experiences. Way to go, MJ! 👏

Happy International Volunteer Day! Today we celebrate the incredible volunteers who make Elmwood a place of joy, connection, and community. 💖

Because of them, residents enjoy programs like Dancing with Katie, Drama Club, Singing with Garnet, Literacy Club, Chair Yoga, Wheelchair Bowling, Art Club, Puppy Party, Kinsmen Christmas Shopping Night, and Kinsmen Broadway Movies - activities that bring excitement and plenty of smiles.

In 2025, we welcomed more than 100 active volunteers and over 300 volunteer visits, creating countless memories. ✨

To every volunteer: thank you for making Elmwood shine brighter every day and for empowering inclusion for those we serve with intellectual disabilities.
