Movement Matters in Parkinson’s Care 🧠🚶♂️

Parkinson’s disease can affect movement, posture, balance, and daily activities — but the right support can make a meaningful difference.

Physiotherapy focuses on:
• Improving walking patterns and mobility
• Supporting posture, strength, and balance
• Teaching strategies for challenges like freezing of gait and slowed movement (bradykinesia)

Regular, guided movement can also support better sleep, improve mood, and contribute to overall well-being. 🌿

With the right approach, it’s possible to stay active, maintain independence, and move with more confidence.

If you or someone you care about is living with Parkinson’s, physiotherapy can be an important part of ongoing support. 💛

🌸🌿Spring is trying to show up… but while we wait, let’s get your body ready. These 6 exercises will help you stay strong, mobile, and pain-free all season long.
Here’s how each exercises prepares your body:
Surrenders
💪🏾Build strength to get up and down from the ground with ease—no more struggling after planting or weeding. This helps your knees and hips handle all that up-and-down in the garden.
Inchworm walkout
💪🏾Improves core strength and shoulder stability for reaching, digging, and working low to the ground. It also helps protect your back when you’re leaning forward.
✅Farmer carry
Strengthens your grip, shoulders, and core so carrying soil bags, pots, and tools feels easier and safer. Think fewer strained arms and better posture.
✅Bent over row
Builds a strong upper back to support all that bending and pulling in the garden. Helps prevent that rounded, achy posture after a long day outside.
✅Tall kneeling hip thrusts
Strengthens your glutes to take pressure off your lower back while lifting, digging, and standing up. More power, less strain.
✅Reverse lunge to touch down
Builds strength and balance for reaching down to plant, pull weeds, or pick vegetables without losing stability. Helps you move confidently on uneven ground and avoid those awkward, wobbly positions.

Low back pain isn’t always just about the back.

The pelvic floor is part of a broader support system, working together with the diaphragm, deep abdominal muscles, and spine to provide stability and coordination.

When this system isn’t functioning optimally, the lower back may take on more load than it’s meant to — sometimes leading to ongoing discomfort, a sense of instability, or symptoms that don’t fully resolve.

Looking at the body as a connected system can often provide a clearer understanding of what’s contributing.

Pelvic floor physiotherapy can help assess these relationships and support more coordinated, efficient movement over time.

If low back discomfort has been lingering, it may be worth exploring what’s happening beyond the area of pain.

If needed, we can also help guide you toward the right professionals, including vision therapy, audiology, ENT, or neurology, to ensure you receive comprehensive care.

After a concussion, symptoms aren’t always coming from what can be seen — they often reflect how the brain and body are communicating.

Dizziness, balance changes, sensitivity to light or screens, or a general sense of feeling “off” can all be signs that these systems aren’t working together as smoothly as they once did.

Vestibular rehabilitation focuses on supporting this connection. Through gradual, guided movement, it helps the brain better process balance, visual input, and body awareness.
Recovery is not only about rest — it’s also about restoring how the system functions as a whole.

If symptoms have been lingering or feel unclear, a more targeted, individualized approach may help support the recovery process.

Did you know that Vangool Wellness are Parkinson’s Care providers?
Whether you’re newly diagnosed or needing support managing the condition, we are here to help guide you along the way.

Behind every gap in care is a missed opportunity — for earlier guidance, stronger support, and better outcomes over time.

Delays in diagnosis can mean delays in starting important lifestyle approaches like regular exercise. Limited access to care can also affect mental health, increase strain on care partners, and lead to earlier loss of independence.

Access to timely care is known to improve quality of life, yet too many people in Canada living with Parkinson’s, especially in rural, remote, and underserved communities, are still navigating without it.

means changing that: expanding access, strengthening expertise across the healthcare system, and using innovation to reach people wherever they are.
