Here are a few photos of Arctic Lupine taken by Snag Junction, Yukon. I love this photo as it shows how Lupine grow together, many plants in a large group. It also has a similar signature like fireweed, where the flowering blossoms bloom from bottom to top, however Lupine in the Yukon is usually a May and mostly June species, a little into July, where as fireweed blooms from July to August. It’s like together they make two halves of a summer clock for the short northern summer!

The Arctic Lupine essence was made on the shores of Morley Bay, Teslin Lake in southern Yukon. There have been many different essences made of various Lupine species all over North America. It’s interesting to look at a plant signature as it often shares insight into its essence properties. These flowers in the Yukon are typically purple, and have an ascending growth pattern of its petals, and these physical qualities may indicate something of a spiritual nature. A word that came to me when making this essence was TRUTH. I work with a few very well established essence systems, and all three ranging from Alaska, the Pacific coast and to California each have their own Lupine essence, with the Alaskan Essences having both a white lupine essence and the Nootka (purple) essence.

Every time I see Lupines a feeling of love and friendship fills me up. It’s such a welcoming flower, I often see it growing along driveways or roadways. Driving into my bestfriends’ home, lupine grows along both sides, glowing bright purple in the warm summer evening light, and it always creates that welcoming feeling.

I’ve been posting about animal helpers during essence making, and today’s post is about who once showed up while doing sessions outside. There was a time, just like this set-up in front of the sauna at our family’s camp on Lake Superior where I did remote healing sessions. What happened during the session was about a dozen chickadees flew amongst the low branches, chirping away and flying back and forth. I already thought that was pretty cool, then a hummingbird flew in to the spot right in front of me. The little bird hovered about a foot and a half from me, below my eye level and stayed a long time. In my memory it feels like it was several minutes, but in reality it was likely only 30 seconds. I stood transfixed and knew this was a beautiful gift for the person receiving the distance session.

It’s a magical thing to witness when you sit in one spot outside for hours, who comes to visit. On this sunny day a bee went from flower to flower and a beaver swam up river. It was definitely an intentional morning of anchoring more light into an area that really needed it, and witnessing the bee and a beaver so closely was very very special! The spiritual significance of these species have some overlapping qualities such as working hard, conscientiousness and cooperation. The bee is also known in some cultures as God’s Messenger, or a connection to the afterlife. The beaver symbolizes dreams, new horizons and hope. When I co-created the Chiming Bell essence, one of the things I wrote down was “emotion is energy in motion” and what two better species then the bee and the beaver because often when they are witnessed they are energy in motion. The essence spoke to feeling the feeling in my chest, then finding a way through the breath to release.

My dog Taika has often been by my side on essence co-creating making outings. She is definitely an energy healer in “our” day job of Masssge Therapist. On these outings she may be patrolling and keeping us safe, she is often alert at first, and then settles in and sleeps nearby during the duration of it. I know everything that happens during the essence making is recorded by the water, and I would think she’s imparting some of her own magic… after all the name she picked for herself is Ellowyn (meaning either Elm Tree or Elf Friend). I love this! Perhaps she is a friend to the elves and fairies, the devas and elementals, especially during the essence making. Thank you my Magic girl!

Here is the River Beauty in full morning light on Kluane Lake. The ephemeral nature of the flowers in the north, that have such a short but intense growing season, give such potency to the essences made from them.
This essence is for shock and trauma, especially to experiences impacting the root and sacral chakras.

Last summer I made (or co-created) a flower essence from River Beauty. It also came to me that the essence is for shock, trauma and devastation. In conversation with the flowers, this was shared: “Why do you think I grow where I do? The river washes over for weeks, then I grow in between the rocks and crevices , where there is minimal nourishment but I give back to the Earth with my chemical composition. I offer safe passage through the hard times, adversity. With courage you go to places you’ve never been.”
