Indigenous Veterans Day – Nov. 8, 2025

Today, on Indigenous Veterans Day, we honour the First Nations, Inuit and Métis people who served with courage and pride even as they faced deep injustice at home.

Thousands enlisted and contributed to Canada’s war efforts, while their communities lost land, rights and recognition. The impacts of those policies (from land expropriation to denied benefits) continue to shape generations of trauma and loss. On this day we must reflect about what land means to Indigenous communities, and how land is a deep familial connection with bundles of meaning associated with it and generations of Indigenous histories contained within it.

This Indigenous Veterans Day, we remember the sacrifices and the ongoing struggle for justice.

If you or someone you know is an Indigenous veteran seeking support, contact the Hope for Wellness Help Line at 1-855-242-3310 or visit hopeforwellness.ca.

Veterans Affairs Canada maintains a website with further information on the long and proud tradition of Indigenous military service to Canada which has not always been honoured and recognized.

Nearly 6 in 10 young adults (18–24) say cost keeps them from getting mental health help. No one should have to choose between paying rent and paying for care.

Today’s reflection: Think of the young people in your life. Family, friends or even neighbours. They deserve care they can afford. Let’s keep speaking up until that becomes reality.

90% of Canadians say timely access to mental health care is important. When someone reaches out, they shouldn’t be met with waitlists. Help should be there when it’s needed most.

Today’s reflection: Think of a moment when someone you care about needed help right away. Imagine if the support wasn’t there. That’s why timely access matters.

In Canada, people with poor mental health are 50% more likely to live in inadequate housing. Supportive, stable housing is mental health care. Everyone deserves a safe place to call home.

Today’s reflection: As you read this, think about what home means for your own well-being. Then consider how much harder it is for people without stable housing. Together we can push for change.
