3 YEAR OLD WART GONE! 😎

After years of unsuccessful treatment, this persistent wart was finally removed without the need for surgery.

Thankfully, we were able to get rid of the wart with only a few treatments and give this patient much needed relief 👍

Ingrown toenails occur when the corners of the nail grow into the skin. This can be quite painful and traumatic to the health of your toenails.

Ingrown toenails are often caused as a result of:
- Improper trimming of the nails
- Toenail injury
- Improper fitting footwear which places too much pressure on the corners of the nails
- Having curved nails
- Having poor circulation
- Genetic predisposition

In this video, we decided to proceed with a nail procedure to permanently remove the portion of the ingrown toenail. This ensures that the offending nail border is taken out and restricted from coming back.

*Custom Made ORTHOTICS*

Custom Made Orthotics are an integral part of patient care in the management of foot related pathologies. Orthotics are often used by Chiropodists to improve gait and alleviate pain or discomfort from abnormal foot function or structure.

Examples of lower extremity pathologies which often require the use of Custom Made Orthotics include:
1) Flat Feet
2) High arched feet
3) Diabetic feet
4) Rheumatoid Feet
5) Arthritic feet

Post: This patient was suffering from chronic plantar fasciitis and had tried conservative treatments for months with minimal relief.

We decided it was time to provide a more long-term management by correcting his biomechanical abnormalities and providing him with adequate arch and heel support using Custom Made Orthotics. With the appropriate footwear and knowledge of his condition, this patient now a has the right tools to protect his feet

*FUNGAL NAIL REMOVAL*

Fungal nails are common nail pathologies seen in Chiropody. They often present as thickened, yellow and brittle nails. The nail may also be partially detached from the underlying nail bed. Sometimes an odour may also be present.

How do we get Fungal Nails?
1) Cross infection from using shared nail nippers
2) History of Nail Trauma/Injury
3) History of Fungal Skin Infection/Athletes Foot
4) Nail Psoriasis
5) Family History
6) Increased Age
7) Having Multiple Comorbidities

Treatment:
Fungal nails can often be treated using Topical Anti-Fungal medications in conjunction with routine trimming and filing of the nail. Systemic anti fungal medications have also shown promising results although they are less frequently administered.

This patient decided to proceed with a surgical approach whereby the fungal nail is removed, nail bed is cleansed and topical anti fungal medications are subsequently used.

If you have signs of fungal nails it is important to have your feet examined.

INVOLUTED NAILS 👣

Involuted Nails are curved nails which can sometimes lead to pain and discomfort.

While the exact cause is unknown it is often times associated with tight footwear. Other times, it may be hereditary especially if more than 1 nail is affected.

TREATMENT:
The best way to treat involuted nails is to reduce the thickness and curvature of the nail so that it does not put pressure onto the underlying skin.

It is also important to wear footwear with adequate space in the forefoot to provide relief to your feet.
