HOW TO USE OUR BLUE LOTUS FLOWERS (Nymphaea caerulea)
Native to Egypt and Southeast Asia, Blue Lotus is believed to increase intuition, deepen meditative states, reduce anxiety by calming the nervous system, promote relaxation, facilitate sleep, and enhance lucid dreaming. Its mild psychoactive, sedative, and aphrodisiac properties come from the alkaloids apomorphine and nuciferine, which interact with dopamine and serotonin receptors in the brain.
Caution: High doses may cause anxiety, hallucinations, chest pain, or a rapid heart rate. Consult a doctor before use, especially if you have health conditions or take medications.
How to use Blue Lotus Flowers: Blue Lotus can be brewed as a tea, used in oils for aromatherapy or massage, or added as extracts or tinctures to drinks for relaxation and meditation.
To Make Blue Lotus Tea: This calming tea is best prepared in a quiet setting. The flowers can typically be re-steeped a two or three times.
Ingredients and Equipment
1 whole dried blue lotus flower or 1-2 tsp dried petals/leaves
8-12 oz fresh water (filtered, if possible)
Mug or teapot with infuser or strainer
Honey or lemon (optional)
Step-by-Step Instructions
Heat Water: Bring water to a boil. Let it cool slightly to about 190-200°F (82-93°C) to avoid scalding the delicate compounds.
Prepare Flower: Place the whole flower or dried petals into your infuser or teapot.
Steep: Pour the hot water over the flowers, cover the vessel to keep the aromatic oils in, and steep for 5-10 minutes.
Strain & Serve: Remove the infuser or strain the flowers out.
Flavour (Optional): Add honey or lemon to taste, without overpowering the subtle floral notes.
Storage: Store dried flowers in a dark, dry, covered container.
