Sunshine Coast Hospice

Sunshine Coast Hospice We support people with life-limiting illnesses and their loved ones. We’re also working with VCH to open the Coast’s first dedicated hospice in 2027.

Through trained volunteers, we offer free grief, bereavement and advance care planning services. Coast Hospice has been providing compassionate care since 1987. Our volunteers offer companionship and bereavement support at home, in hospital and in comfortable private hospice rooms here on the Sunshine Coast. Hospice provides extensive volunteer training and support in bereavement and vigil care to allow us to continue to provide the best services possible. Together we make a difference; together we create a compassionate community.

🌟 What is Giving Tuesday? 🌟

You may have heard of but what does it mean for Coast Hospice?

For all of us at Coast Hospice, Giving Tuesday is an opportunity to highlight the essential programs that support individuals and families through illness, caregiving and grief.

When you choose to support Coast Hospice this , your support enables us to provide
~ comfort and dignity for those at the end-of-life
~ grief support for adults, youth and families
~resources and respite for caregivers
~ volunteer companionship and community outreach.

On this even a small gift can make a meaningful different right here in our wonderful coastal community. 🙏Thank you for helping keep compassionate care close to home.

✨🎄 Every year, we share a community member's story to help people truly understand the heart of Hospice and our Lights of Life campaign. This year, we are honoured to share Marion Cork's story.

"When my daughter first suggested Hospice, I was scared. I thought it meant the end of life, but I was wrong. The Circle, A Palliative Wellness Day Program showed me something completely different.

It showed me that hospice isn't only about death, but it's also about truly living. Week by week, I began to find confidence, connection and joy once again. Today, I smile more, I talk more, and I even have the energy to play with my great-grandson. All because I took a chance on a free program at Coast Hospice.

It is my wish that others in our community who need this kind of support can have the same experience. If you are able, please consider donating to the Lights of Life campaign so Coast Hospice can continue offering this program (and many others) free of charge to our lower Sunshine Coast community. Thank you."

(ACP) is about making sure your values, needs, and wishes are understood — especially if there comes a time when you can’t speak for yourself. This session is a safe and inclusive space for the 2SLGBTQIA+ community to learn, ask questions, and get started with ACP.

Everyone is welcome!

🌈 Advance Care Planning for the 2SLGBTQIA+ Community
🗓 Sunday, Nov 23rd
⏰ 1–3 PM
📍 Salt & Swine, North Rd, Gibsons

This special event is a collaboration between the Sunshine Coast Hospice Society and the Sunshine Coast Pride Society

Your voice matters even when you can’t speak for yourself.
Join us for a warm, community-focused workshop on Advance Care Planning (ACP) designed specifically with q***r and trans folks in mind.

✨ What’s ACP?
Advance Care Planning is the process of thinking ahead about the health and personal care decisions you’d want made if you’re ever unable to speak for yourself. It’s about autonomy, dignity, and ensuring your wishes are honoured.

✨ Why does it matter?
For q***r and trans people, choosing the right person to represent you is essential. ACP helps you:
✔️ Document your wishes
✔️ Identify who can make decisions for you
✔️ Talk with your doctor, loved ones, and chosen family
✔️ Ensure your future care reflects who you are

✨ What is Green Sleeves?
Think of them as your healthcare passport; a place to store your medical info and ACP documents so your wishes are clear in an emergency or during a health decline.

Come learn, ask questions, and take empowered steps toward protecting your future with community beside you. 💛

✨ Community Spotlight ✨

The Sunshine Coast Pickleball Association (SCPA) held its first annual Autumn Bowl Pickleball round Robin Tournament on November 1st, 2025, at Chatelech High School. The successful tournament was a fun-filled, event that included fundraising for the Sunshine Coast Hospice Society. 🙏

The SCPA is an inclusive non-profit formed in 2009, which fosters and promotes goodwill, fellowship, fitness, and healthy competition among its members. There are approximately 500 players on the Sunshine Coast, and the SCPA is working tirelessly for the community to secure a permanent location to offer year-round pickleball on the Sunshine Coast.

Thank you, SPCA, for your dedication to Coast Hospice. We appreciate you. 💛

✨ Celebrating Our Volunteers: A Heartfelt Gathering at Hospice House

One of the greatest highlights of our year has been the chance to recognize and celebrate our extraordinary volunteers! On Thursday, September 18th, the warmth and spirit of our compassionate coastal community came alive at Hospice House, where we gathered to honour those who make our mission possible.

Over a delicious meal lovingly prepared by volunteer Annie Rogers, laughter and stories filled the room as we reflected on another incredible year of service. With more than 90 volunteers giving their time and hearts, our community continues to shine bright with empathy and connection. 💙

🌸 Honouring Excellence: Volunteer Awards

We awarded six people with two awards this year: the Roey Award and the Heart of Hospice Award.

🏆 The Roey Award to Diane Head for her leadership, compassion, and remarkable work in expanding our grief support programs.

💙 The Heart of Hospice Award to Kate Jones, Kate Taylor, Emily Merrill, Jody Shaw, and Daniel Boileau for their extraordinary team effort in supporting a client at the end of life.

Thank you to all of our volunteers. Your compassion, presence, and dedication are the heartbeat of our community. We appreciate all that you do. 💛
