Sunshine Coast Hospice

Sunshine Coast Hospice We support people with life-limiting illnesses and their loved ones. We’re also working with VCH to open the Coast’s first dedicated hospice in 2027.

Through trained volunteers, we offer free grief, bereavement and advance care planning services. Coast Hospice has been providing compassionate care since 1987. Our volunteers offer companionship and bereavement support at home, in hospital and in comfortable private hospice rooms here on the Sunshine Coast. Hospice provides extensive volunteer training and support in bereavement and vigil care to allow us to continue to provide the best services possible. Together we make a difference; together we create a compassionate community.

Movement of the SCRHD funds needs to wait for provincial designation of the Sunshine Coast Hospice Society project, currently under construction, as a “hospital facility." At the meeting, Sunshine Coast Regional District chief administrative officer Tina Perreault stated discussions with the province on that matter “are coming along quite nicely." She said a report back to the board on a decision is expected “in six to nine months” or potentially earlier.

💙 Supporting hearts and easing grief. 💛

Our grief support programs have been described as "life-changing" for individuals navigating their grieving journey. Grief isn't something that you face alone, and sometimes, having a safe space with people who understand can make all the difference.

If you feel this offering may support you, please contact us today to learn how our programs and resources can help!

We are grateful to the organizations that help make our grief programs responsive to the needs of our community and free of charge: The Sunshine Coast Community Foundation | The Marin Foundation | The District of Sechelt (Community Investment Program Grant).

Everyone is invited to this event!

April 2026 marks ten years since a BC public health emergency was declared due to the massive surge in opioid-related overdose deaths, largely driven by fentanyl. Since that declaration in 2016 over 17,500 people have died in BC due to toxic unregulated drugs (and over 700,000 across North America). Over 80 of those deaths we people we loved, who lived here on the Sunshine Coast.

To mark the anniversary, Arrowhead Clubhouse, working alongside the Sunshine Coast Community Action Team (CAT) and the amazing people at Sunshine Coast Hospice, will be holding a vigil and celebration of love and life for all those who have been taken too soon. We will be lighting 80 candles through out the Clubhouse to remember those we have loved and lost.

Please come and join us on April 17th – light a candle, share some yummy free food, listen to some music and support each other through these hard times.

Arrowhead Clubhouse - Candlelit Vigil
11.30am - Friday 17th April, 2026
Arrowhead is located at 5554 Inlet Av, Sechelt, BC (opposite the Post Office).

✨ Healing Arts—Light & Lanterns

The series uses art-making to gently encourage expression, insight, and growth in a caring environment where participants can share stories, express emotions without words and feel connected while creatively exploring their grief and honouring their loved ones.

In this particular series, participants created personal memory lanterns from willow and paper; the stunning work that emerged was truly remarkable. If you would like to learn more about our healing arts series, please contact our Client Services Coordinator via email at programs@coasthospice.com.

🙏 We are grateful to the Marin Foundation and the SCRD Grant-in-Aid for their funding support of our Healing Arts series at the program centre.

✨ On this day, and every day, you are not alone! ✨

Recognizing that Valentine's Day could be challenging for those experiencing grief, we compiled five of our favourite ways to honour and celebrate our loved ones. Feel free to include one or all of them in your day or use them as inspiration to create your own tradition. 💐

1: Write your loved one a letter
2: Enjoy their favourite trail
3: Enjoy your loved one's favourite meal
4: Enjoy their favourite book or author
5: Light a candle in reflection of their love

💙 Remember that grief and love are naturally linked and can be described as two sides of the same coin. You are never alone in your grief; we are here for you. 💛
