Society of Rural Physicians of Canada – Position Statement on Québec Law 2

The Society of Rural Physicians of Canada (SRPC) supports efforts to improve access and continuity of care in Québec but is concerned that Law 2 could worsen challenges for rural, remote, and Indigenous physicians. We recognize the challenges this law poses for physicians and want them to know we stand with them during this difficult time. Added administrative and service obligations may strain already overburdened rural practices, risking physician burnout and threatening the sustainability of care in these communities.

Day #4 of Rural Health Week 🙌🎉

Thank you for submitting your stories! Today, we are sharing Dr. Julie Saby, a rural generalist in her first five years of practice, whose work takes her across Alberta, Saskatchewan, the Northwest Territories, and soon B.C.
----
Hi, I’m Dr. Julie Saby.

🏞Where I work: For now, Edson, AB, though I locum all over Northern and Central Alberta, have worked in SK, and will soon work in Inuvik, NT. I also do medical humanitarian work in rural Guatemala.

💚What I love about my community: I LOVE my colleagues, not just the doctors, but nurses, pharmacists, unit clerks, MOAs, and everyone on the healthcare team. Every time I come back to locum, I’m greeted with hugs and stories. I love that I get to work with my friends.

🚴‍♀️Free time: I’m outdoors whenever I can, running, hiking, biking, paddling, skiing, and when I’m inside, I bake bread, play guitar, or watch trash TV after a long ED shift.

💭Advice for those considering rural medicine: Always Be Curious. Ask questions, try new skills, and lean on your colleagues. Rural medicine is about teamwork, trust, and never losing your sense of curiosity.
