๐คCommon misconceptions about Physiotherapy:
1) Only athletes need to go for physio. This is not true! We treat a variety of conditions that can affect people in all stages of life! People who don't play sports can still get injured or have pain, so we're here to help you!
2) It didn't work for me before, so there's no point to try again. Not all physio's treat the same. There are many tools and techniques that physio's use in the treatment room. If you didn't see a benefit in the past, we highly encourage you to try another practitioner to explore other options.
3) They'll just give me a hot pack and TENS. This is a vary old school approach to rehab. Many clinics nowadays offer a more personal treatment with hands-on therapy and active rehab.
4) I need a doctor to refer me. Nope! We are considered direct care providers and you don't need a referral!
5) They'll make me book 2-3x/week. Treatment frequency is variable and should be a collaborative conversation. We take into consideration the diagnosis, your schedule, and the financial commitment. We often see clients every 1-3 weeks!

๐We get this question a lot and the answer is YES, all of Physiotherapists offer IMS needling! This modality can be very effective in treating soft tissue injuries and stubborn pain! We always pair it with hands-on treatment and exercise to optimize your recovery.
๐And just a little tidbit of information: physiotherapists don't graduate with their needling certification straight out of school. It's actually recommended for a clinician to get a few years of experience before learning needling. This enhances their assessment, treatment, and clinical reasoning before taking on a new skill.
And Physio's who don't have their Needling Certification are just as qualified and knowledgeable to help you with your injury recovery! There's no "one-size-fits-all" approach in the rehab world, so don't be afraid to explore various modalities!

Unfortunately, there's not a straight forward answer to this question... every person will respond differently and every injury has a different timeline for recovery.
Here are a few examples to show how variable it can be:
๐ตโ๐ซVertigo cases may need 3-6 sessions within 1-2 months.
๐ฆฟPost-surgical cases (Total hip/knee replacements, rotator cuff repairs, ACL repairs, etc.) may start with weekly sessions for the first 6-12 weeks, but transition to bi-weekly or monthly sessions for another 8-12 months.
๐ชMuscle strains or ligament sprains often need weekly sessions for 2-4 weeks, then transition to bi-weekly or monthly sessions for another 2-6 months.
๐Motor vehicle accidents (whiplash, concussion, strains/sprains) can take anywhere from 3 months to 4-5 years! We often see these cases multiple times per week.
These are just a few examples. Our Physiotherapists will always communicate with you about the treatment plan, prognosis, and recovery expectations. Quick fixes are rarely the case in rehab, so it's important to understand the commitment when you start physiotherapy. ๐Our staff at Lemon Tree Health would love to be a part of your healthcare team.
