The Norfolk Family Health Team remembers Betty for her outstanding service as a Board Member. Her leadership, passion, and dedication to the health and well-being of our community will be long remembered.

The 2025 Dogwood Awards Ceremony will take place on Sunday, November 16 at 2:00 PM at the Waterford Heritage & Agricultural Museum. All are welcome to attend and celebrate the achievements of this year’s honourees.

This year, one of the two Lifetime Achievement Awards will be presented to:
• Betty Chanyi, former Norfolk County Councillor, is posthumously honoured for her lifelong dedication to her community and local heritage. Betty passed away in 2024, leaving behind a legacy of civic engagement and cultural stewardship.

Established by the Heritage & Culture Department in 2007 and named after Norfolk County’s official flower, the Dogwood Awards celebrate excellence in local history, arts, music and media. The awards are presented in four categories: individual award, group award, youth award, and life achievement award. The awards recognize the grassroots efforts that enrich the cultural fabric of Norfolk County.

Tomorrow is the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.
The Brantford Brant Norfolk Ontario Health Team (BBNOHT) was honoured to take part in a recent virtual tour of the Woodland Cultural Centre. During the tour, Survivors shared powerful stories from their time at the former Mohawk Institute Residential School, as well as the experiences of their loved ones.
We extend our deepest gratitude to the Woodland Cultural Centre, the organizers, and most importantly, the Survivors and their families. Your courage, resilience, and generosity in sharing this history help us learn, reflect, and better understand the lasting impacts of residential schools.
We recognize the vulnerability it takes to share such painful truths and are humbled by the opportunity to listen and learn. These stories are vital to reconciliation, and we are committed to carrying this knowledge forward in our work and our community.

The Woodland Cultural Centre will officially open the restored former Mohawk Institute site with a special open house. This day is more than an event — it is an opportunity to stand in solidarity, to honour Survivors, and to take meaningful steps on the path of reconciliation.

By attending, community members can connect with history in a profound way, deepen their understanding, and show support for Indigenous-led healing and education.

We encourage you to participate. Check out our website for links to the Woodland Cultural Centre event, and for education, events and resources related to our commitment of amplifying indigenous voices and working towards reconciliation in Brantford Brant Norfolk.
