One of the conditions to be aware of when dealing with diabetes is Diabetic Retinopathy.
Diabetes can damage the blood vessels in your retina, causing bleeding that can create floaters, distort your vision, and lead to permanent vision loss. Your body may try to manage this blood vessel damage by rapidly creating new blood vessels, which are generally very leaky and lead to more complicated vision issues.
Treatment may involve lasers or injections to reduce the blood vessels and decrease swelling, and possibly surgery to remove excess blood from they eye and repair the retina.
Good blood sugar and blood pressure control will aid in healthy vision, but eye exams with an optometrist will detect Diabetic Retinopathy before symptoms start and are your best protection against vision loss!
